Wilson Named To WACBA First Team; Johnson Placed on Second Team
PAXTON, MA - The Worcester Area College Basketball Association (WACBA) announced their selections for the All-WACBA teams earlier today. WACBA is comprised of all the colleges in the Worcester area and selects 13 individuals to either make it onto their First Team or Second Team. This past season the AMCATS had two standout student-athletes selected.
Amber Wilson (New York, NY) had a career year offensively for the AMCATS as she posted career high's in points (20.3) and field goal percentage (40.2). During the regular season, Wilson had four games when she scored 30 or more points, and 20 or more points in 11 games. Her scoring this year was also one of the best in program history as she holds the fourth spot for the highest points per game in a season. You can also find her name in the record books again for her career day against Norwich (February 4, 2020) when she posted a career-high 36 points which is good for the third in most points scored in a game. In the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC), Wilson is second in points per game and in all of NCAA Division III, she is ranked in the top 20 (19th).
Not only did Wilson contribute offensively, but she also had many career-highs on the defensive end in rebounds per game (8.6), steals per game (2.2), and blocks per game (3.1). Wilson had three games this season where she had six blocks which is fourth-best in a single game for program history. Also, her 3.14 blocks per game are good for the GNAC lead, and ninth in NCAA Division III. She also led the team in double-doubles with eight and brought down a career-best 16 rebounds against Rivier earlier this season (January 15, 2020).
Sierra Johnson (Brockton, MA) had a strong season for the AMCATS as she put up 13.2 points per game on 42.5 percent shooting from the field and a career-best, 32.6 from three-point range. One of Johnson's regular-season highlights features a 37-point performance against Dean College (January 4, 2020) which placed her for second in the program's record books for most points scored in a game. Throughout the year, Johnson racked up four games of scoring 20 or more points and scored in double figures in all but seven games. Johnson's 13.2 points per game is ranked in the top-10 (10th) in the GNAC and along with Wilson, Anna Maria is one of three schools in the conference to have two student-athletes in the top-10 for scoring.
Defensively, Johnson had a career-high 5.5 rebounds per game and also grabbed 1.1 steals per game. This season, Johnson had 16 games where she brought down five or more rebounds highlighted by a career-best, 15 rebounds against Johnson & Wales University (February 12, 2020).
