Briand Becomes Winningest Coach In Anna Maria History After Sweep Over Rangers

AUBURNDALE, FL - On Tuesday, March 11th the Anna Maria College baseball team took on the Drew University Rangers for a doubleheader down in Auburndale, FL for the Russmatt Invitational. The AMCATS won both games 8-3 and 12-9.

Game One:

The AMCATS got an early jump over the Rangers with a three run first inning followed by an additional run in the top of the second inning. After giving up three runs between the third and fifth innings, the AMCATS maintained a one run lead over the Rangers before locking in the victory with back to back two run innings in the sixth and seventh. Josh Batchelder led the AMCATS with a pair of RBIs while Jeremy Rosenberg and Matthew Beuka each recorded an RBI.

After the first win over the Rangers, Head Coach Dan Braind became the Winningest Coach in Anna Maria History recording his 126th career win.

Game Two:

After securing the win in game one, the AMCATS kept the momentum going with a three run jump in the bottom of the third inning. A pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth would give the AMCATS a 5-2 lead before giving up six runs in the top of the fifth. Despite falling behind, the AMCATS answered quick with seven runs in the bottom of the fifth giving them a 12-8 lead as the game entered the final two innings. The AMCATS would give up just one more run to secure the win over the Rangers.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • Dan Briand becomes the Winningest Coach in Anna Maria history with 126 career wins.
  • Tommy Sasso went 3 for 5 with 3 RBIs between both games.
  • Sean Christiansen threw a career high of 4 strikeouts in game two against the Rangers.

COMING UP:

The AMCATS will be back in action on Wednesday, March 12th where they will take on the Golden Bears of Western New England. Opening pitch is set for 12:15pm.
