ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT INTERNSHIPS

The Anna Maria College Athletic Department is offering several internship opportunities experiences in the Athletic Department to eligible qualified Anna Maria students. The internships will serve as an excellent educational experience as well as a tremendous resource for the Athletic Department. These opportunities will provide valuable experiences and items that can be noted on their resumes for future career opportunities.

These internships will be in very specific areas in the Athletic Department. Students classified as sophomores, juniors and seniors can have the opportunity to earn  between one to three credits for a minimum of 40 to 120 hours worked. Freshman are eligible to volunteer but will not earn credit however they will gain valuable work experience in Intercollegiate Athletics. The internships may coincide with the fall and/or spring or summer semester academic schedule. Some internships may require an earlier start if the student is available (i.e., Football Manager Internship). In addition to the valuable work experience gained, the internship program will provide occasional career development seminars, round table discussions that will include networking, resumes, cover letters, references, interviewing and career information pertinent to business and sport management industries.

Academic Advisor Approval

Athletic Department Internships Available For 2023-2024 Academic Year Include:

Football Team Manager Intern
Manager responsibilities may include but are not limited to: assist with practice set-up and break down, assist with drills during practice, process laundry, locker room set-up for home games, equipment maintenance and cleaning, ensure proper storage of equipment, video, other duties determined by the Head Coach and/or Assistant Football Coach. Game day duties will be specified by the Head Coach and/or Assistant Football Coach.  Supervisory roles of student football team managers may be available to qualified candidates. Schedule and hours will be determined by the Head Coach. The ability to work flexible hours and attention to details.

Credits Earned: 1 to 3 credits (sophomores, juniors or seniors); freshman are eligible for volunteer internships but will not receive credit and can only use this opportunity to build experience in the sports management field.
Required Hours: 40 to 120 minimum hours dependent on course credits being earned. All students must meet with their Academic Advisor and receive initial approval from their advisor prior to applying for an internship. Professional and positive attitude are a must. Eager to learn and willingly to take on challenging projects.

Team Manager Intern (Non-Football)

Equipment Room 
Intern (All Sports)
Assist in the collecting and distributing of equipment, and practice gear and uniforms. Laundering team gear, inventory control, and maintaining the organization of the equipment area. These positions function out of both the Fuller Activities Center and the AMCAT Center. Supervisory roles of student employment staff may be available to qualified candidates. The ability to work flexible hours and attention to details, professional and positive attitude are a must. Eager to learn and willingly to take on challenging projects.

Game Day Operations Intern (All Sports)

Assist with game day operations including but limited to: preparing and breaking down of facilities before and after specific athletic events. Assist with game day operations during events as assigned. Supervisory roles of student operations staff may be available to qualified candidates. The ability to work flexible hours and attention to details, professional and positive attitude are a must. Eager to learn and willingly to take on challenging projects.

Credits Earned: 1 to 2 credits (sophomores, juniors or seniors); freshman are eligible for volunteer internships but will not receive credit and can only use this opportunity to build experience in the sports management field.

Digital and Social Media Intern
This position is responsible for creating images and video for use on Anna Maria College’s social media platforms, including: Instagram, Twitter and Facebook as well as engaging fans of Anna Maria College athletics via these platforms. The internship will also include: taking action photos and video at athletic events. Individuals will be asked to work select athletic events, including some evening/weekend hours. Experience with Photoshop (or other photo editing software), digital photography and video editing is desired. The ability to work flexible hours and attention to details, professional and positive attitude are a must. Eager to learn and willingly to take on challenging projects. (2-3 positions are available.)

Sports Information Intern

This position will assist the Sports Information Director with the promotion and publicity of all NCAA and club sports. Write and edit press releases and game stories. Produce athletic publications such as game programs. Assist with the updating of the athletics website. Manage video content for the website. Handle play-by-play duties for webcasts of some sports. Compile and distribute statistics. Assist with maintaining Anna Maria College athletics social media sites. Operate computer programs, including Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, NCAA Live Stats, and PrestoSports stat software. Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills are required. A working knowledge of public relations and college sports is desired. Familiarity with digital photography, video editing software, Adobe InDesign, and Photoshop is also desired. The ability to work flexible hours and attention to details, professional and positive attitude are a must. Eager to learn and willingly to take on challenging projects. At the conclusion of the internship, the individual will have been exposed to all aspect of a college sports information office.

Intern To The Anna Maria Sports Medicine Staff
The Health Science Internship with Anna Maria Sports Medicine will expose the undergraduate to an inside look at the healthcare system. Interns will see how athletic trainers work with supervising team physician and fellows, student health services, strength and conditioning staff, coaches, and student-athletes. This program offers increased awareness of the athletic trainer’s role in the healthcare system, an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a college athletic training room, and the opportunity to learn from healthcare professionals. This position will involve assisting the Sports Medicine Staff in day-to-day operations, including but not limited to athletic care and coverage, medical clearances, administrative duties, and can be tailored to meet the interns’ specific interests.

This position requires first aid and CPR certification. If the applicant is not certified, certification will be part of the internship curriculum. This position also requires the use and understanding of PPEs, standard precautions, and compliance with HIPAA.
