Field Hockey Secures First Win Of The Season Over Blazers

CHICOPEE, MA—The Anna Maria College field hockey team traveled to Chicopee, MA to take on the Elms College Blazers on Wednesday October 16th for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference Matchup. The AMCATS would have a come from behind win beating the Blazers 2 to 1. 

Just two minutes into the game the Blazers would strike first against the AMCATS and get on the board with a goal from Elizabeth Franzoni, putting the AMCATS to have to battle back trailing the Blazers 1 to 0. It would be all offense for the AMCATS, pressuring Emily Hunt the Elms goalie, with multiple shots and opportunities on corners. It would with about 5 minutes left in the quarter that August Otto would be taking a corner for the AMCATS, and it would be Carly Drew who would find the rebound bounce off the goalie onto her stick and put it home for the AMCATS to tie the Blazers 1 to 1. That would conclude the scoring in the first quarter with the score tied 1 to 1. 

With a great start and an offensive focus, the AMCATS would begin the second quarter. The AMCATS would keep up the constant pressure and would continue to pepper the Emily Hunt the Elms goalie with shots and opportunities. It would be Lily Celta to convert for the AMCATS and get it by Emily Hunt the Elms goalie to get the second goal of the game. That would give the AMCATS the lead over Elms, being the first lead for the AMCATS this season.  

The AMCATS would keep the offense going and display strong defensive play to keep the Blazers off the board for the remainer of the game. Celta goal would be enough to secure the win for the AMCATS over the Blazers of Elms college. The AMCATS could celebrate victory by beating the Blazers of Elms college 2 to 1.  

 

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE: 

-Carly Drew would score her second goal of the season for a total of 5 points so far this season.  

-Lily Celta would score her second goal of the season for a total of 4 points so far this season. 

-This marks the AMCATS first win of the season. 

- This marks the third straight year that the AMCATS defeat the Blazers of Elms College. 

- This marks head coach Marybeth Brandt first career win as the AMCATS head coach.  

 

COMING UP: 

The AMCATS will be back in action on Saturday October 19, 2024, where they will travel to New Haven, CT for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup. The game is set to start at 10:30am.
