Drew and Romano Named Captains For 2024 Season

PAXTON, MA - As the fall season is just right around the corner, the Anna Maria Women's Field Hockey team would like to announce their captains for the upcoming 2024 season! Leading the AMCATS will be rising junior Madison Marie-Romano and rising senior Carly Drew. 

Coming from Lebanon, ME, Madison Romano has served the last two seasons with the AMCATS starting her career back in 2022. A midfielder with intense athletic skill when it comes to moving the ball, getting shots on net, and defending i the AMCATS zone. Romano is a well-respected, and well-rounded teammate for the Anna Maria Field hockey team as well as the Anna Maria community. "Maddy Romano is the epitome of a natural leader, effortlessly guiding our team with her confidence and exceptional skills. Her versatility on the field allows her to excel in any position, making her a crucial asset in every game," commented Head Coach Marybeth Brandt. "Maddy leads by example, showing her teammates what it means to be dedicated, disciplined, and fearless. Her athleticism is matched only by her ability to inspire those around her, making her a true cornerstone of our team's success."

Entering her last season for the AMCATS, and coming from Rochester, MA Carly Drew enters the season as a senior for the AMCATS. Carly as a midfielder uses her toughness, athletic ability, and determination, to secure the AMCATS with strong offensive and defensive skills on the field. Drew is a well-known and well-respected teammate on her field hockey team as well as the Anna Maria community. "Carly Drew, our Senior Captain, embodies the heart and soul of our team. Her relentless work ethic on the field, combined with her unwavering dedication off it, sets a standard of excellence for all of us. Carly is not just a leader by title but by example," said Brandt.—"Her involvement on campus as well as on the field make her an irreplaceable part of this team. Her athleticism, drive, and passion for the game inspire us all to push harder and reach higher every day."

Brandt had this to say. "After just a few practices, I was amazed at the level of talent and dedication this small group has shown. Their commitment and skill are truly impressive, and I'm excited to put the pieces into place and see what we can accomplish together this season. I can't wait to get the season going!"

The AMCATS open their season up at home on Caparso Field with the Bison of Nichols College on September 4th at 6:00pm. The field hockey team will be competing in their last season as members of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference before joining the MASCAC in the 2025-2026 season.
