NEWTON, MA - On Wednesday, October 2, 2024, the Anna Maria College Field Hockey team traveled to Newton, MA for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup against the Lasers of Lasell University. The AMCATS lost the game 7 to 1.
The first half of the game would not bode well for the AMCATS after getting outshot 9 to 1 and allowing four goals. The Lasers would waste no time getting their first goal of the game within the first minute and forty seconds into the game. It would then be the Lasers to score three more goals before the AMCATS would get their first goal of the quarter. The AMCATS goal would come off a pass from Carly Drew that would connect with Madison-Marie Romano to get the AMCATS on the board. That would be Romano first goal of the season for the AMCATS. The goal for the AMCATS would conclude the scoring for the first quarter with the AMCATS looking to come back from a 4 to 1 deficient.
The second quarter for the AMCATS would be back and forth until about halfway through that the Lasers would tally another goal adding to their lead 5 to 1. It would be a minute later that the AMCATS would find the back of the net again with the goal coming off the stick of Carly Drew. That would mark Drew first goal of the season for the AMCATS. That would leave the AMCATS trying to fight back from a 5 to 2, deficient with the third and fourth quarters left in the game. The third and fourth quarters wouldn't go well for the AMCATS as they would allow two more goals throughout the third and fourth quarter. The Lasers goalie would keep the AMCATS off the board for the rest of the game, with the AMCATS ultimately falling short to the Lasers 7 to 2.
