Field Hockey Falls To Bison 4-0 In Season Opener

PAXTON, MA. – On Wednesday, September 4th the Anna Maria College Field Hockey team hosted the Bison of Nichols College at Caparso Field for a non-conference matchup. The AMCATS would lose the game 4 to 0.

The Bison put themselves up on the board early, scoring just two minutes into the game. Carly Dedrick would come up strong to make a save off the Bisons corner attempt, but it would be Taylor Breen who found the rebound and put it home taking the lead against the AMCATS. The Bison would continue to put the pressure on the AMCATS and keep the shots coming but it was thanks to Dedrick that the first quarter would end only 1 to 0 in favor of the Bison.

Nichols came out strong in the second quarter, continuing to put the pressure on the AMCATS and showed no signs of letting up. The Bison would strike early with back to back shots, but Carly Dedrick stood on her head to keep the ball out of the net. After four shots and a penalty corner, the Bison would finally find back of the net to score their second goal of the evening. It wasn't until the end of the quarter with about two minutes left, the Bison would strike again resulting in a 3-0 lead as the first half came to a close.

The third quarter would lead off with the AMCATS first shot on goal of the game coming from August Otto, forcing the Bison goalie to make a save. It would then be the AMCATS again to follow up with another shot off of Otto, this time going wide of the net. The Bison regained their momentum, forcing a corner that would then lead to their fourth and final goal of the game with about five minutes left to play in the quarter. Dedrick remained strong in net to keep Nichols from adding to their lead. The score at the end of the third quarter would be 4 to 0 in favor of the Bison.

The fourth quarter would go scoreless for both teams with Carly Dedrick holding strong for the AMCATS and continuing to make key saves throughout the quarter. It would be the AMCATS final chance in the fourth quarter off a corner from August Otto who would pass it over to Romano for a shot, but the Bison goalie remained strong and held the AMCATS at zero. The game would end with a final score of 4-0 resulting in the AMCATS first loss of the season.
