Chris Pothier Named Head Field Hockey Coach

PAXTON, MA - The Anna Maria College Athletic Department is excited to announce the hiring of Christopher Pothier as the new Head Field Hockey Coach.

"Anna Maria has had a great history of success in previous years, and I am excited to bring my experience and passion to a program that I know can be extremely competitive in the NCAA," commented Pothier. "The support from the athletic department, specifically David McCauley, has been encouraging throughout my hiring process. I'm looking forward to the next steps Anna Maria Field Hockey will take to get back on the road to success." 

Christopher most recently served as the Technical Director for the WPI Field Hockey Program where he orchestrated comprehensive training programs and skill development sessions for 22-24 athletes. Christopher also owned the Cape Ann Field Hockey Club from 2011 until 2022. Based out of Shrewsbury, MA Cristopher managed recruitment, organized coaching roles and conducted performance evaluations in order to maintain a high standard of coaching within the club. He also directed the development pathways of players across all age groups from U8 to U19, ensuring holistic growth and skill advancement for both girls and boys.

Prior to serving at WPI, Christopher headed the Field Hockey team at Worcester State. Under his leadership, the Lancers went 12-9 overall and captured its first ever ECAC Division III Tournament win.  With a 2-1 overtime victory over Smith, they advanced to the semifinals in the 2013 season. With Pothier as head coach, the field hockey team also broke program records for goals, assists and points. The Lancers also made consecutive appearances in the Little East Tournament.

Aside from coaching, Christopher has also served the US National men's Field Hockey programs both on and off the field. Since 2008 Christopher has been a member of the USA Field Hockey Men's National team where he finished fourth in the 2023 Indoor World Cup in Pretoria, South Africa and won a Gold Medal in the 2023 Rorhmax Invitation Tournament in Vienna Austria. During his time competing Christopher also aided the US National Team as a Performance Analyst and Team Manager.
