Tegethoff Scores AMCATS Only Goal In Loss To Vikings
SALEM, MA. – On Tuesday, September 10th the Anna Maria College Field Hockey traveled to Salem, MA to take on the Salem State Vikings for a non-conference matchup. The AMCATS would lose the game 4 to 1.
The AMCATS came out strong in the first quarter, putting pressure on the Salem State Vikings getting multiple shots on the Viking goalie forcing her to make saves early. It would then be Julia Stanger the AMCAT goalie making multiple saves about five minutes into the quarter to keep the score tied against the Vikings. The AMCATS would again put strong pressure on the Vikings with multiple chances at the end of the quarter looking for a goal, but it would be the Viking goalie to stop all the AMCAT shots, ending the first quarter of the game 0-0.
The Vikings would come out full force in the second quarter putting pressure on the AMCATS 48 seconds into the quarter, forcing a corner. The shot off the corner from the Vikings would be blocked by the AMCATS, but it would then be Mikayla Talbot to find the ball off the blocked shot and put it in the back net for the Vikings. Salem State would find the back of the net again against the AMCATS just a minute later, giving them a 2 to 0 lead. The Vikings kept up the pressure, forcing several shots and penalty corners, but AMCAT goalie Julia Stanger stopped everything that came her way. That would lead into half time with the Vikings up 2 to 0 over the AMCATS.
The third quarter would start off strong for the AMCATS offense, as they would come out ready to go forcing multiple shots on the Viking goalie just two minutes into the quarter. It would then be back and forth play, with both teams creating scoring opportunities. The AMCATS would get a scoring chance off a shot from Carly Drew, forcing the Viking goalie to make a save. It would then be a Viking scoring opportunity, creating a long ball up the field to Viking player Grace Morey who would find the back of the net for the Vikings adding to their lead 3 to 0. The AMCATS offense again would continue to create scoring chances and take shots, but the Viking goalie stopped everything that came her way, keeping the AMCATS off the board, leading the Vikings into the fourth quarter up 3 to 0.
The fourth quarter would be back and forth play between both teams, until there was about 9 minutes left in the game, AMCAT goalie Julia Stanger would make a save and it was Viking player Allison Thomas that would score off a rebound shot to make it 4 to 0 Vikings. The AMCATS were not giving up and continued to put pressure on looking for their first goal of the season. The AMCATS offense proved to be strong enough as their pressure paid off with about four minutes left to play in the game AMCAT player Megan Tegethoff would find the ball in front of the net off a corner from August Otto, and bank it home for an AMCAT goal, this would mark Tegethoff first goal of the season. This would conclude the scoring for the fourth quarter resulting in the AMCATS falling to the Vikings 4 to 1.

- The AMCATS would score their first goal of the season.
- Megan Tegethoff would get her first goal of the season.
- Carly Drew led the AMCATS with five shots on goal.
- The AMCATS would be tied with the Vikings in shots 15 to 15.
COMING UP:
The AMCATS will be back in action on Saturday, September 14th where they will travel to Saint Joseph Connecticut for a conference matchup. Game is set to start at 12:00pm.
