Bears Drop Eight On Field Hockey
PAXTON, MA - On Wednesday September 24, 2024, the Anna Maria College field hockey hosted the Bridgewater State University Bears. The AMCATS lost the game 8 to 2.
The Bears would have total control in the first quarter against the AMCATS. It would be the Bears that would strike just three minutes into the quarter. It would be Samantha Souza who would bat it into the net off a deflection pass from Abbie Zuber. The Bears would not let up at all, as they would continue the strong pressure, getting multiple shots, opportunities, and penalty corners. The Bears would score their second goal off a penalty corner that would lead to two shots and the Bears find the rebound to put it home. It would be again Samantha Souza finding the back of the net for the Bears, off a rebound pass from Madison Ellis. This would increase the Bears lead 2 to 0 on the AMCATS. The quarter did end with the Bears finding the back of the net one more time, with about five seconds left coming off a shot from Madison Ellis, assisted by Abbie Zubar. The AMCATS would look to go into the second quarter with more offensive opportunities against the Bear, as the Bears did leave the AMCATS scoreless in the first quarter.
The second quarter for the AMCATS would be defensive base as Carly Dedrick for the AMCATS would stop multiple shots and opportunities for the Bears in the first few minutes of the second quarter, keeping the Bears up by three on the AMCATS. It would be the pressure, and constant push by the Bears, that they would strike again against the AMCATS off a goal from Samantha Souza getting her second goal of the night, off a pass from Abbie Zuber. The game would continue with all Bears, in the second quarter as they would strike again scoring their 5th goal of the game against the AMCATS just seven minutes after their fourth. The Bears fifth goal would be a hattrick for Samantha Souza off a pass from Zuber. It would then be the AMCATS to get their first goal of the game with about a minute left in the second quarter. It would be a pass from Angelina Fritze to August Otto who would find the back of the net for the AMCATS.
The late goal from the AMCATS in the second quarter, would hope to bring momentum and pressure into the third quarter for the AMCATS. The AMCATS defense would let up the sixth goal coming from Madison Ellis, assisted by Abbie Zuber. The AMCATS would continue to fight and put pressure on the Bears that would lead to the AMCATS striking in the third quarter scoring their second goal of the game off the stick of Lily Celta, off a crease pass from August Otto. That would conclude the scoring for both teams in the third quarter. That would conclude the third quarter, with the Bears up against the AMCATS 6 to 2. The fourth quarter would be all Bears again, but the AMCATS would keep the Bears to scoring only two goals in the fourth quarter. The Bears would get goals from Kallie Rose and Lexi James to end the fourth quarter, with the Bears coming out on top of the AMCATS 8 to 2
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Carly Dedrick had 17 saves against the Bears.
- August Otto scored her first career goal as an AMCAT.
- August Otto had a career high in points for one game with a goal and an assist.
- Lily Celata scored her first career goal as an AMCAT.
COMING UP:
The AMCATS will be back in action on September 27, 2024 where they will host the Monks of Saint Joseph's of Maine for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup. The game is set to start at 6:00pm at Caparso Field.
