MEN'S HOCKEY DOMINATES AGAINST OWLS TO SECURE FIRST MASCAC CONFERENCE WIN

AUBURN, MA. – On Thursday November 21, 2024, the Anna Maria College men's hockey team hosted the Westfield State Owls at the Horgan Arena in Auburn, MA. The AMCATS won the game 4-0.

The AMCATS would look to come out strong against the Owls as it would be the first MASCAC conference game for the AMCATS. The AMCATS would set the tone early with a goal from freshman Tobias Omholt for his first goal of the season, about eleven minutes into the first period. The AMCATS would continue to pile on the pressure against the Owls, dominating play, but would only find the back of the net once in the first as the Owl's goaltender would keep them off the board. The AMCATS would head into the intermission with a 1-0 lead.

The AMCATS would come out in the second period with all the momentum on their side, getting multiple shots and opportunities against the Owls. The AMCATS would find the back of the net two more times against the Owls in the second period. The first goal in the second period would come off a dominating opportunity from Matthew Bryne off a perfect pass from  Guillaume Coulombe, to put the AMCATS up 2 to 0 over the Owls. It would not be long before the AMCATS would strike again continuing pressure on a powerplay from a strong shot off the stick of Braeden McKinnon. This would increase the AMCATS lead over the Owls 3 to 0. This would also spark a goalie change for the Owls, where the Owls would then hope to get a spark in momentum. It would be the Owls to get some scoring opportunities against the AMCATS after the change, but it would be the AMCATS goaltender Matthew Hennessey to close the door against the Owls, shutting down every opportunity the Owls would try and get past him to score and put their team on the board. A strong offensive and defensive effort would lead the AMCATS to head into the second intermission up against the Owls 3 to 0.

The AMCATS would come into the third period with a strong outing continue their dominate play getting multiple scoring opportunities and connecting on one of them to add to their lead. It would be Guillaume Coulombe to get the fourth goal for the AMCATS on the night against the Owls. The AMCATS would continue to dominate play against the Owls, and control play throughout the third period. The AMCATS goalie Matthew Hennessey would keep the Owls off the board, denying them of any scoring opportunity they would try and have, on the night. It would be the AMCATS offensive, and defensive skills, and talent as well as AMCAT goalie Matthew Hennessey that would lead them to winning their opening conference game of the year. The AMCATS would defeat the Owls 4 to 0.
