Men's Ice Hockey Secures 2nd Seed Despite Loss To Panthers

PLYMOUTH, NH – The Anna Maria College men's ice hockey team suffered a 5-0 defeat on Saturday night, struggling to generate offense against a tough defensive unit. Despite moments of strong play and a determined effort, the AMCATS couldn't break through, leading to their first shutout loss of the season.

The AMCATS got off to a difficult start, conceding the first goal just over two minutes into the opening period. The early deficit forced Anna Maria to chase the game, but they responded with a series of offensive rushes. Liam Wells and Patrick Crooks registered early shots, but the opposing goaltender turned them away. A second goal late in the period widened the gap to 2-0 heading into the first intermission.

In the second period, Anna Maria pressed hard to get back into the game. Brandon Della Paolera and Matthew Gilbert each created scoring opportunities, while Owen Barrow continued to battle in the faceoff circle. The AMCATS had a chance to shift momentum when they earned a power play midway through the period, but their efforts were stifled by the opposing penalty kill. Shortly after, another goal extended the deficit to 3-0, putting Anna Maria in a deeper hole. A fourth goal late in the second period left the AMCATS with an uphill battle in the final frame.

The third period saw Anna Maria come out aggressively, determined to find a way back into the game. Owen Barrow led the offensive charge with five shots on goal, while Nicholas Frederick and Spencer Carpenter also tested the opposing goaltender. Despite the increased pressure, the AMCATS were unable to break through. The final goal of the night came in the closing minutes, sealing the 5-0 result.

While the scoreline was one-sided, the AMCATS showed flashes of strong play, with Matthew Hennessey making several key saves to keep the game within reach for as long as possible. However, the inability to capitalize on scoring chances and break through defensively proved too much to overcome.
