Men's Ice Hockey Scratches Past Falcons 6-3 On Senior Day

AUBURN, MA - On Saturday, February 15th the Anna maria College men's ice hockey team hosted the Falcons of Fitchburg State University for a MASCAC conference matchup. Prior to the game, the AMCATS recognized Matthew Byrne, Justin Taylor and Derek Raposo as part of Senior Day. The AMCATS won the game 6-3.

The AMCATS were the first to strike as Dylan McElhinny scored a beautiful short side goal putting the puck just over the Falcons goaltender nearly nine minutes into the first period. McElhinnys goal would be the only on scored in the first period.

An AMCATS penalty carried over from the first period would lead to the equalizer for the Falcons as they found the back of the net just over a minute into the second period making it a 1-1 game. The game wouldn't see another goal until the fourteen minute mark of the second period when the Falcons took the lead over the AMCATS 2-1. The Falcons lead would be short lived as Matt Gilbert buried the AMCATS second goal of the evening just two minutes later on an AMCATS power play opportunity. Unfortunately the Falcons managed to sneak in one last goal in the second period to take a 3-2 lead over the AMCATS going into the third period.

Trailing by one, the AMCATS got right to work in the third period as they capitalize on yet another power play opportunity with Guillaume Coulombe finding the back of the net just under three minutes into the period. With just over ten minutes left to play in the third period, Dylan McElhinny scored his second goal of the evening giving the AMCATS the lead yet again. Matthew Byrne and Tobias Omholt would each score an insurance goal to help secure the Victory for the AMCATS putting the game out of reach for the Falcons with a score of 6-3.
