PAXTON, MA - On Saturday, October 5th the Anna Maria College football team hosted the Golden Bears of Western New England University for a non-conference matchup. The AMCATS lost the game 44-10.
The AMCATS opened up the scoring in the first quarter with a 25 yard field goal from Ryan Kent making it 3-0 nearly seven minutes into the game. The Golden Bears would answer just three minutes later with a touchdown from Paul Gorry followed by a failed two point conversion making it 6-3. Western New England would find the end zone one more time in the first quarter taking a ten point lead over the AMCATS.
The Golden Bears would keep their momentum going into the second quarter with an early touchdown just over a minute into play. Trailing 20-3, the AMCATS would notch their first touchdown of the game as Kevin Acosta Jr. scored off a 20 yard pass from Ryan Russell. After cutting the Golden Bears lead in half, the AMCATS would give up another touchdown as the first half came to a close making it 27-10 going into intermission.
The AMCATS wouldn't find the end zone again for the rest of the game as the Golden Bears went on to score two more touchdowns in the third quarter followed by a single touchdown in the fourth quarter to close out the game with a score of 44-10 in favor of the Golden Bears.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- The AMCATS are 0-3 against the Golden Bears in their last three meetings.
- Kevin Acosta Jr. leads the AMCATS recieving with 23 receptions and 374 yards so far this season.
- Ryan Kent has made 4 of his last six field goal attempts so far this season.
- Jaquan Torrence snagged his first career interception against the Golden Bears.
COMING UP:
The AMCATS will be back in action on Saturday, October 19th where they will travel to Washington, DC to take on the Gallaudet University Bison for their first ECFC matchup of the season. Opening kickoff is set for 1:00pm.
