Privateers Sink Football 32-27
THROGGS NECK, NY - On Saturday, September 21st the Anna Maria College football team traveled to Throggs Neck, NY to take on the SUNY Maritime Privateers for a non-conference matchup. The AMCATS lost the game 32-27.
After a slow first quarter of play, the AMCATS were the first on the board after Davien Atkinson ran in a 40 yard touchdown off a pass from Ryan Russell with just under two minutes to play in the quarter. Leading 7-0 going into the second quarter, the AMCATS were met by a strong Privateers offense as they allowed three unanswered touchdowns throughout the quarter resulting in a score of 20-7 going into the second half of the game.
Trailing at the start of the second half, the AMCATS would allow another touchdown halfway through the third quarter making it 26-7 in favor of the Privateers. With just under five minutes left to play in the quarter, the AMCATS found the end zone again after Atkinson ran in his second touchdown of the day. Despite closing out the third quarter on a high note, the Privateers would open up the fourth and final quarter with a quick touchdown just seconds into the play. The AMCATS would answer just three minutes later off a touchdown from Jamal Cariglia but still found themselves trailing behind the Privateers. Fighting hard to make a comeback, the AMCATS managed one more touchdown with just under two minutes left to play however it would not be enough to sink the Privateers as the game would end with a score of 32-27 in favor of SUNY Maritime.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Ryan Russell threw for 366 yards with his longest touchdown coming in at 61 yards.
- The AMCATS have not lost to the Privateers since 2019.
COMING UP:
The AMCATS will be back in action on Saturday, September 28th where they will host the Husson University Eagles for a non-conference matchup. Opening kickoff is set for 1:30pm at Caparso Field in Paxton, MA.
