
Football Can't Come Back In Loss To Bison
WASHINGTON, D.C. - On Saturday, October 19th the Anna Maria College football team traveled to Washington, D.C. to take on the Gallaudet University Bison for their first ECFC matchup of the season. The AMCATS lost the game 39-34.
The Bison were the first to strike, scoring almost halfway through the first quarter. Trailing by 6, the AMCATS got themselves up on the board with just seconds to spare in the first quarter with a field goal from Ryan Kent to cut the Bison lead in half.
The second quarter saw an explosion of scoring starting with the Bison scoring off a 7 yard rush. The AMCATS would answer however just a minute later after Ryan Russell took the ball in on his own for a 23 yard rush. After the extra point from Kent, the AMCATS trailed by just two points. The Bison would go on to score two more touchdowns improving their lead to 16 points. Sneaking in one more touchdown before the end of the first half, Russell found Justin Oliver for a 63 yard touchdown with a little over a minute left to play. The AMCATS touchdown would bring the game to 26-17 in favor of the Bison as the game entered halftime.
The third quarter saw just one touchdown as Davien Atkinson ran in a 13 yard touchdown to help the AMCATS cut the Bison lead down to just two points yet again. Gallaudet opened up the fourth quarter action with a quick touchdown just under two minutes into the quarter. The AMCATS would answer with a 38 yard field goal from Ryan Kent. Trying to scratch back, the AMCATS were unfortunately met by yet another Bison touchdown with nearly five minutes left to play. Trailing 39-27, the AMCATS managed to put up one last touchdown in the last minute of the game however it wouldn't be enough to close the gap as the Bison came out on top with a final score of 39-34.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Ryan Russell led the AMCATS rushing with 73 yards and 1 touchdown.
- The AMCATS are 5-5 against the Bison over the last ten seasons.
- Russell recorded his third 300+ passing yard performance of the season.
COMING UP:
The AMCATS are back in action on Saturday, October 26th where they will host the Alfred State College Pioneers for an Eastern Collegiate Football Conference matchup. Opening kickoff is set or 12:00pm at Caparso Field in Paxton, MA.
