Football Falls To Pioneers In ECFC Championship
PAXTON, MA - On Saturday, November 16th the Anna Maria College football team hosted the Alfred State College Pioneers for the Easter Collegiate Football Conference Championship. The AMCATS lost the game 39-37.
The AMCATS would end up working from a deficit early in the game after giving up a touchdown just over ten minutes into the first quarter. The Pioneers would pack on two more touchdowns before the AMCATS finally got on the board after D'Angelo Jean Pierre scored two points off an extra point return. The AMCATS went on to score two more touchdowns in the second quarter to close the gap to just three points as the game entered the second half.
The Pioneers opened up second half action with a touchdown nearly five minutes into the third quarter. Three minutes later the AMCATS answered back with a touchdown from David Robinson to make it a 26-22 game. unfortunately the Pioneers would tack on another touchdown before the end of the third quarter followed by another almost halfway through the fourth quarter. The AMCATS managed to score one more touchdown including a two point conversion to bring the score to 39-37 however a failed onside kick attempt would result in a victory for the Pioneers as the clock hit zero.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Ryan Russell would end his senior season with the record for most career touchdown passes at the school with a total of 63.
- Russell led the AMCATS in rushing yards with 407 on the season.
- Justin Oliver led the AMCATS receiving with a total of 685 yards.
