TERRY AND MORAN LEAD THE CHARGE AGAINST THE MARINERS TO SECURE THE AMCATS WIN

PAXTON, MA - On Saturday, September 21st the Anna Maria College men's soccer team traveled to New London, Connecticut for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup against the Mariners. The AMCATS won the game 2-1 marking their fifth win of the season.

The first half would be back and forth action between the AMCATS and the Mariners. It would be the AMCATS that would strike first for the first goal in the game. The goal would put the AMCATS up 1 to 0 coming from a pass across the box from Giovanni Acevedo to sophomore player Thomas Terry for his first goal of the season. The AMCATS would continue the pressure on the Mariners goalkeeper, with multiple shots and chances but the Mariners goalkeeper would keep the AMCATS to only one goal. The first quarter would end with the AMCATS up against the Mainers 1 to 0. 

Sometime would pass in the second half but it would be the Mariners to get the tying goal in the 64 minutes of the second half. It would be a pass from Dylan Lucey across to Sean Khan to find the back of the net for the Mariners. The AMCATS would not back down after the tying goal from the Mariners and would continue to put the pressure on creating multiple opportunities and chances against the Mariners. It would be twelve minutes after the tying goal from the Mariners that the AMCATS would score the game winning goal against the Mariners. It would be a pass from Iweka Iweka to Rubelsi Moran who would find the back of the net for the AMCATS. That would mark Rubelsi Moran third goal of the season and give the AMCATS the lead against the Mariners 2 to 1. After taking the lead, the AMCATS would fight hard to secure the win keeping the offense on the Mariners and limiting their chances all the way to the final buzzer. The AMCATS would go on to beat the Mariners 2 to 1. 

Beyond the Box Score: 

  • This marks the first goal of Thomas Terry career as an AMCAT.
  • This marks Rubelsi Moran third goal this season and twenty-three goals in his career. 
  • The AMCATS outshot the Mariners 20-9. 
  • This marks the fifth win for the AMCATS this season.
  • The AMCATS sit in third place in the GNAC standings. 

 

COMING UP:

Men's Soccer will be back in action on Wednesday Sept 25, 2024, where they will head down to Providence Rhode Island to take on the Wildcats of Johnson and Wales for another Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup. Opening kickoff is set for 6:00pm.
