Men's Soccer Can't Hold On Against Wildcats

PROVIDENCE, RI - On Wednesday, September 25th the Anna Maria College men's soccer team traveled to Providence, RI to take on the Johnson & Wales University Wildcats for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup. The AMCATS lost the game 2-1.

The AMCATS were the first to strike against the GNAC defending champs as Rubelsi Moran buried his fourth goal of the season with some help from Ciaran Bailey. The AMCATS goal came with nearly fifteen minutes left to play in the first half. The AMCATS lead would last until the final minute of the first half as the Wildcats tied the game up with just 56 seconds left before intermission. The Wildcats goal came off a penalty kick from Aidan Bagley.

Tied up at one goal a piece, the Wildcats would hold on to possession for most of the second half as they put the pressure on the AMCATS defense. After a number of opportunities, the Wildcats finally broke through with a header goal from Carlos Andrade to take the lead just over 27 minutes into the second half. With the AMCATS unable to generate an equalizer, the game would come to an end with a score of 2-1 in favor of the Wildcats.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Its been over ten years since the AMCATS had 5 or more wins in a season.
  • Valter Santiago made a career high of 12 saves against the Wildcats.
  • Rubelsi Moran leads the AMCATS offense with 9 points in 7 games (4 G; 1 A).
  • Freshman Ciaran Bailey leads the AMCATS in assists as he notched his third of the season against the Wildcats.

COMING UP:

Men's Soccer will be back in action on Saturday, September 28th where they will host the Dean College Bulldogs for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup. Opening kickoff is set for 10:00am at Caparso Field in Paxton, MA.
