Iweka And Santiago Named Captains For 2024 Season

PAXTON, MA - As the fall season is just right around the corner, the Anna Maria Men's Soccer team would like to announce their captains for the upcoming 2024 season! Leading the AMCATS will be rising senior Iweka Iweka and Graduate goalkeeper Valter Santiago.

Coming from Westborough, MA, Iweka Iweka has served the last three season with the AMCATS starting his career back in 2021. A ball winning midfielder with great distribution skills, Iweka is a well respected member of the men's soccer team as well as the Anna Maria community.

Leading things on the back end for the AMCATS will be graduate goalkeeper Valter Santiago. Valter enters his third season with the AMCATS after transferring from Lynn University back in 2022. Valter has been a standout since his arrival on campus as he has held a 70% or higher save percentage each season and earned a spot on All-GNAC Third Team last fall.

"We could not be happier to have Iweka and Valter serve as team captains this upcoming season." Said head coach Joe Dincecco. "Both are high-level student-athletes who are well-respected by their teammates, coaches and professors."

The AMCATS open their season up with an exhibition match against the MCLA Trailblazers on August 21st before hitting their first regular season match later that month. The men's soccer team will compete in their last season as members of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference before joining the MASCAC in the 2025-2026 season.
