Men's Soccer Drops First Game Of The Season To Falcons

NEW HAVEN, CT - On Tuesday, September 17th the Anna Maria College men's soccer team traveled to New Haven, CT to take on the Albertus Magnus Falcons for a Great Northeast Athletic College matchup. The AMCATS lost the game 1-0.

The AMCATS dominated the first half of the game as they out shot the Falcons 7-3. Despite the offensive pressure from the AMCATS, the Falcons goalkeeper David Lucero would stop all five shots that came his way resulting in a scoreless first half.

Tied up at zero, the Falcons broke the ice early in the second half after Roger Baldwin found the back of the net just ten minutes into play. The Falcons would maintain pressure throughout the second half as they outshot the AMCATS 8-5. The Falcons ended up holding off the AMCATS for the remainder of the second half resulting in the AMCATS first loss of the season. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • The AMCATS opened up the season with a 4-0 record before falling to the Falcons marking their best start to a season in the programs history.
  • The AMCATS are 1-9 against the Falcons in the last 10 seasons. Their last win coming back in 2014.
  • Valter Santiago holds a career high save percentage of .927 so far this season with a .67 goals against average. (Currently ranked 1st in the GNAC for Save Percentage)

COMING UP:

The AMCATS will be back in action on Saturday, September 21st where they will head down to New London, CT to take on the Mitchell College Mariners for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup. Opening kickoff is set for 1:00pm.
