Drew Early Second Period Goal Secures The Win Against the Trailblazers

WORCESTER, MA – On Wednesday February 19, 2025, the Anna Maria College women's ice hockey team hosted the Trailblazers of MCLA for a MASCAC Conference game. The AMCATS won the game 3-1.

The AMCATS came out flying in the first period, getting an early jump on the Trailblazers of a pass from Alexandra Petersen to Camryn Beauvais who would find the back of the net for the AMCATS first goal of the game, with about 8 minutes into the first period. The AMCATS would continue to pressure the Trailblazers in the first, not taking their foot off the gas but could not find the back of the net. The AMCATS would play strong offensively, and defensively despite only one goal on the board, the AMCATS would be completely outshooting the Trailblazers 18 to 3 and would head to the locker room with a 1 to 0 lead at the end of the first.

The second period the AMCATS would look to come out with the same strong and offensive momentum and mindset. It would be the Trailblazers to draw a penalty against the AMCATS just under 2 minutes into the second period. It would be on the powerplay that the Trailblazers would find the back of the net for the AMCATS getting their first goal of the game. That would tie the game at 1 to 1. The AMCATS would use that Trailblazers goal to push their own offensive momentum as they would continue to push and create offensive opportunities against the Trailblazers. It would be Carly Drew who would follow the play into the offensive zone and find the loose puck out front to slam it into the back of the net, to get the second goal of the game for the AMCATS. The AMCATS would now regain the lead over the Trailblazers 2 to 1. That would conclude the scoring in the second period for both teams. The AMCATS would out-shoot the Trailblazers in the first two periods 35 to 11 and would head into the locker room at the end of the second period up against the Trailblazers 2 to 1.

The AMCATS would come out how they needed in the third period, continuing to keep control over the Trailblazers, creating scoring opportunities. It would be the AMCATS to strike one more time before the game would end off a shot from Morgan Daly to strike the back of the net for the AMCATS. It would now be the AMCATS leading the Trailblazers 3 to 1, with about 15 minutes left to play. The AMCATS would play strong not only offensively against the Trailblazers but would lock it down on defense against the Trailblazers, limiting them to only one goal in the game. The AMCATs would defeat the Trailblazers 3 to 1.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • Carly Drew would score her second game winning goal this season for the AMCATS.

  • Olympia Myers would lead the AMCATS in shots against the Trailblazers with 7.
  • The AMCATS would out-shoot the Trailblazers 44 to 19.
