Women's Hockey Can't Find The Equalizer In Loss To Rams

WORCESTER, MA – The Anna Maria College women's ice hockey team faced off against Framingham State on Friday evening at Buffone Arena, battling hard in a low-scoring contest that ended in a 1-0 loss. Despite an aggressive offensive effort from the AMCATS, Framingham State's goaltender, Lila Chamoun, stood strong in net, turning away every shot faced.

The matchup was a tightly contested defensive showdown, with both teams struggling to break through early. Anna Maria outshot Framingham State throughout the game but was unable to find the back of the net. The Rams managed to capitalize on one key opportunity early in the second period, and their defense, backed by stellar goaltending, held firm to secure the victory.

Both teams came out strong in the first period, trading early scoring chances. Anna Maria controlled much of the offensive zone time, firing multiple shots at Framingham State's net, but Chamoun proved to be a wall, making critical saves. The AMCATS had a power play opportunity midway through the period but were unable to convert, as the Framingham penalty kill unit blocked shots and disrupted passing lanes. Defensively, Anna Maria held the Rams in check, with Megan Tegethoff making key saves to keep the game scoreless heading into the second period.

The second period saw Framingham State break through just 45 seconds after the puck drop when Lily Wilson found the net for the only goal of the contest. Despite allowing the early goal, Tegethoff continued her strong performance, stopping several follow-up chances from the Rams. Anna Maria responded with an aggressive push, including a string of power plays, but Chamoun made clutch saves under pressure. The AMCATS hit the post once and had multiple near-misses, but frustration mounted as they couldn't find the equalizer.

Heading into the third period, Anna Maria ramped up its attack, outshooting Framingham State in a desperate attempt to even the score. The AMCATS generated multiple scoring chances, but their offensive momentum was continually stalled by Framingham's defense. With just over a minute left in regulation, Anna Maria pulled Tegethoff for the extra attacker, increasing the pressure on the Rams. The final 30 seconds of the game were heart-stopping, as the AMCATS fired two dangerous shots on goal that had the crowd on its feet, screaming in anticipation. However, Chamoun delivered two last-second saves, securing her shutout and the 1-0 win for Framingham State.
