WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COMES UP SHORT AGAINST MONKS

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COMES UP SHORT AGAINST MONKS

STANDISH, ME- On Saturday February 1st, 2025 the Anna Maria College women's basketball team traveled to Standish, ME to take on the Monks of Saint Joseph's of (ME). The AMCATS lost the game 74 to 64.

The first quarter the AMCATS and the Monks would battle it out, going basket for basket. Both teams would bring the offensive momentum putting up points on the scoreboard, the AMCATS would go point for point in the first quarter against the Monks. The AMCATS would sink a jump shot late in the first quarter to pull ahead of the Monks by two points to end the first. It would be the AMCATS to be up against the Monks 18 to 16 at the end of the first quarter.

The AMCATS would look to come out strong and continue the offensive momentum in the second quarter if they wanted to maintain the lead against the Monks. It would be a similar story  at the beginning of the second quarter for both teams, each going basket for basket putting points up on the board. As the second quarter would wind down, though however the AMCATS started to struggle against the Monks. The Monks would be finding themselves gaining a lead on the AMCATS. The AMCATS would not give up and continue the offensive pressure, but it would be the Monks to put up five more points than the AMCATS leading them in the second quarter. As the second quarter would come to an end not only did the Monks lead the AMCATS in the second quarter in points but would also now take the lead over the AMCATS with a score of 32 to 29 to head into halftime.

The AMCATS would need to use this intermission to reset themselves and bring the offensive pressure, momentum and defensive skills against the Monks. The AMCATS would. The AMCATS did not get what they hoped for in the third quarter against the Monks. The Monks would bring all the offensive pressure in the third quarter and would limit the AMCATS offensive opportunities. The Monks would put up 26 points in the third quarter and would limit the AMCATS to only 15 points. The AMCATS would head to the fourth quarter down to the Monks with a score of 58 to 44.

The AMCATS would need to use this last quarter to give it all they had against the Monks. The AMCATS needed to come out strong offensively in the fourth quarter and lock it down defensively against the Monks if they wanted to force a comeback. The AMCATS would bring the intense pressure and offensive momentum, in the fourth. The AMCATS would not give up and continue to fight against the Monks and put points up on the board while also locking it down on defense. The AMCATS would outplay and outscore the Monks in the fourth quarter, but the AMCATS come back would fall short in the fourth despite outscoring the Monks 20 to 16 it was not enough points overall to gain the lead and complete the comeback as the AMCATS would fall to the Monks 74 to 64.
