WOMEN'S HOCKEY FALLS TO LANCERS ON THE ROAD
WORCESTER,MA– On Saturday February 8th, 2025, the Anna Maria College women's hockey team traveled down the hill to Worcester, MA to take on the Lancers of Worcester State. The AMCATS would lose the game 3 to 1.
The AMCATS would come out firing to start the game against the Lancers of Worcester State. The AMCATS would find themselves crashing the net, and creating multiple scoring opportunities in the first period, but could not find the back of the net on Worcester State goalie. The AMCATS would be consistent all period not giving up, or letting off the gas against the Lancers in the first period but it would be the Lancers goaltender Kelsey Czerniawski to close the door on the AMCATS in the first period. The Lancers would push the offensive momentum in the first period, on the AMCATS but not only would the AMCATS push the offensive momentum but would lock it down on the defensive side of the puck as well. It would be the Lancers to get a couple of chances towards the end of the first period and draw a penalty on the AMCATS. It would then be the Lancers to use their powerplay advantage to score the first goal of the game to put the Lancers up against the AMCATS 1 to 0. Despite the AMCATS getting some last minute chances it would be the Lancers to have the lead on the AMCATS at the end of the first period 1 to 0.
The AMCATS would look to come out with the same momentum and offensive opportunities as the first period, and lock down more on defense to tie the game and take the lead over the Lancers. The AMCATS would do just that in the second period coming out strong. The AMCATS would look to create offensive opportunities and find the back of the net against the Lancers to get on the board, but the Lancers goalie would continue to dominate in the crease against the AMCATS deny their scoring opportunities in the second. It would be the AMCATS to find a powerplay opportunity in the second period, and it would then be Emma McGuane who would off a tipped shot from Alexandria Mupo get the AMATS on the board. That would tie the game in the second period 1 to 1. It would be however the Lancers to get some offensive opportunities in the second period, against the AMCATS. The AMCATS would have several shots on net, in a row but it would be Megan Tegethoff the AMCAT goalie to keep the Lancers off the board and the score tied 1-1. Both teams would continue to trade opportunities as the clock would start to wind down in the second period. Despite the efforts the rest of the second period from the AMCATS with multiple scoring opportunities the AMCATS would head to the locker room at the end of the second period tied 1 to 1.
The AMCATS needed to come out strong in the third period, to pull out a win against the Lancers. The AMCATS would come out strong offensively and would not let up against the Lancers putting everything they had on ice and continuing to fight offensively against the Lancers to find the offensive to break the tie to the Lancers. It would not work in the AMCATS favor as the Lancers would come out and totally control the third period. It would eb the Lancers to get the go ahead go on the AMCATS 2 to 1. Despite the AMCATS not giving up and totally battling against the Lancers, it would be the Lancers to put the game away scoring the third goal of the game. Despite the strong offensive chances from the AMCATS, the AMCATS would fall to the Lancers 3 to 1.
