ANNA MARIA DROPS SEASON OPENER TO ALVERNIA, 5-0

ANNA MARIA DROPS SEASON OPENER TO ALVERNIA, 5-0

READING, PA. – On Friday, November 1, 2024, the Anna Maria College women's hockey team traveled to Reading, Pennsylvania to take on the Golden Wolves of Alvernia University. The AMCATS would lose the game 5 to 0.

The AMCATS and the Golden Wolves would go back and forth both creating opportunities throughout the first period. The Golden Wolves would strike first as Golden Wolf Abby Gularte would take a slapshot from the point to find the back of the net for the Golden Wolves. That would put the Golden Wolves up on the AMCATS 1-0. That goal would come at about the nine-minute mark in the first period. The Golden Wolves and the AMCATS would both battle back and forth as the game would continue both creating offensive chances and opportunities, but it would be the Golden Wolves to take the momentum into the locker room as they would score again with less than a minute left in the first period. The AMCATS would head to the locker room down to the Wolves 2 to 0. The AMCATS would look to come out strong in the second period, creating offensive opportunities, and keeping the Golden Wolves out of the offensive zone. The AMCATS would tighten up their defensive play, giving the Golden Wolves less opportunities, and blocking multiple shots, doing everything they could to keep everything out of the back of their net. Megan Tegethoff the AMCATS goalie would save everything that would come her way in the second period keeping the Golden Wolves scoreless in the second. The AMCATS would use this momentum and draw penalties in the second period that would create powerplay opportunities and chances, shooting and putting everything on net, but despite the offensive play and strong opportunities the bounces were just not going in the AMCATS direction, and they could not get one past the Golden Wolves goalie Juliana Rodgers. The AMCATS would continue to battle back and forth with the Golden Wolves, trading chances into the last minute of the second period, but the Golden Wolves goalie would continue to shut the door on the AMCATS putting them down 2 to 0 still to close out the second. The AMCATS would hope to use that momentum from the second period to find the back of the net against the Golden Wolves, but it would be just the opposite as the third period would be dominated by the Golden Wolves who would go on to score 3 more unanswered goals closing the game out 5-0.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Megan Tegethoff would end the game with 32 saves on 37 shots.
  • Jordan Bleaney would lead the AMCATS with three shots on goal.
  • This marks the second year in a row that the AMCATS were defeated in the first game against the Golden Wolves.
