BATTLE OF THE DEFENSES: WOMEN’S SOCCER DRAWS WITH CHARGERS 0-0

PAXTON, MA - On Saturday September 28, 2024, the Anna Maria College women's soccer team hosted the Chargers of Colby-Sawyer for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup. The AMCATS would tie the Chargers 0-0.

The Chargers would be in control of the first half of the game, outshooting the AMCATS 10-1. Despite the strong offensive presence, the AMCATS goalkeeper Kortney Clark would keep the game scoreless throughout the first half. The second half would start off with the Chargers coming out strong offensively again. Clark would continue to show off her skills stopping all the Chargers shots that would come at her throughout the second half. The AMCATS would find themselves some opportunities around the ten-minute mark in the second half and it would be the Chargers goalie Gabriela Calidonio to keep the AMCATS off the board. The Chargers would continue the strong pressure on the AMCATS, but it would be the strong defensive blocks and Kortney Clark to keep the Chargers off the board. The Chargers would find a chance with less than a minute left remaining in the game, with an opportunity from Sam Bishop who would strike a kick from the 20-yard line to nail off the side of the post. It would then be two quick shots from the Chargers, both going wide of the net, with about thirty seconds to play. It would be the Chargers that would draw the last corner of the game, striking the ball across the box, but it would be the strong defense from the AMCATS and Clark that would keep the Chargers off the board and end the game. The AMCATS and Chargers would draw to a tie, as both teams would remain off the board at the end of the game.

  • Clark would make 11 saves in the match against the Chargers.

  • This marks the first time in 6 years the AMCATS would tie the Chargers.

  • This would be the AMCATS second tie so far this season.
