Two Late Goals Leads To AMCATS Tie With Bulldogs
PAXTON, MA , On Wednesday, October 9th, the Anna Maria College women's soccer team went head-to-head with Dean College for a conference matchup. The AMCATS settled for a tie as the game drew 2-2!
The Anna Maria College women's soccer team squared off against Dean College in a matchup that had fans on the edge of their seats. The game ended in a nail-biting 2-2 draw, leaving the AMCATS with a bittersweet taste of what could have been a victory.
The first half saw both teams battling hard to find a goal, with neither side able to break the deadlock. Both defenses stood hard to ensure they went into the second half without seeing the ball hit their nets.
The second half started with the AMCATS with more possession of the game and with more shots on target. With more pressure and determination, Anna Maria struck first with a good goal by Kayla Berthiaume assisted by Macy Hutchinson. The crowd erupted as the support grew.
Not long after, Macy Hutchinson doubled the lead in the 63rd minute. With a 2-0 lead, Anna Maria looked poised to took control of the match but just when it seemed like the AMCATS had the game wrapped up, Dean College came roaring back. In the 80th minute the Bulldogs cut the lead in half putting pressure on the AMCATS.
Not long after, disaster struck. A defensive miscommunication led to another goal for Dean by the same player, leveling the score at 2-2 and leaving the AMCATS in utter disarray. Momentum switched sides and Dean College pushed for a winner as their fans cheered. Despite the late collapse, the AMCATS displayed resilience and held their fort till the end of the match.
While the draw may feel like a missed opportunity, the AMCATS know that every point counts. As they regroup and look ahead, they'll be ready to pounce on their next opponent.
