Holden Stops Career High In Loss To Lasers

PAXTON, MA - On Wednesday, March 26th the Anna Maria College women's lacrosse team hosted the Lasell University Lasers at Caparso Field for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup. The AMCATS lost the game 15-7.

Riley Michaud got the game started with a quick goal for the AMCATS just fifteen seconds into the first quarter. Michauds goal would be the only one scored by the AMCATS in the first quarter as the Lasers went on to score four unanswered goals followed by a pair of goals at the start of the second half, putting the AMCATS at a 6-1 deficit.

Despite being held scoreless for nearly twenty minutes, the AMCATS picked themselves back up with four unanswered goals in the bottom half of the second quarter. The AMCATS scoring started with Christine Ijawet with just over ten minutes to play in the half. Ijawet would go on to assist the AMCATS next goal with a pass to Ivy Ballou, cutting the Lasers lead in half. Olivia Stump would be the next AMCAT to find the back of the net with some help from Riley Michaud on the Extra Man Advantage. Just about twenty seconds later, Raegan Hachey would put the AMCATS within one goal of the Lasers to close out the first half.

Unfortunately after the intermission, the AMCATS would only manage two more goals while the Lasers took a commanding lead scoring nine over the final two quarters. The final two goals for the AMCATS came from Riley Michaud and Christine Ijawet. Despite the Lasers scoring fifteen goals against the AMCATS, the true standout of the game would be the AMCATS goaltender Grace Holden who stopped a career high of 24 saves in an effort to keep her team in the game.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • Grace Holden recorded her 100th career save in just 8 games played so far this season.
  • Holden currently leads the GNAC in saves with the next closest goalie sitting 16 saves behind with one more game played.
  • Holden is also tied for first in Division III with 100 saves.
  • Riley Michaud continues to lead the AMCATS offense with 28 points in 8 games.
