
Buccaneers Sink Women's Lacrosse
PAXTON, MA. – The Anna Maria Women's lacrosse team would host the Buccaneers of Mass Maritime for a non-conference matchup. The Buccaneers would win the game 17 to 5.
In the first quarter the Buccaneers would come our fast and be the first to strike two quick goals on the AMCATS putting them in the lead 2 to 0. It would be the AMCATS to answer from Christine Ijawet, to get the AMCATS on the board and only trail the Buccaneers by one. It would then be the Buccaneers to get three consecutive goals in the first quarter to lead the AMCATS at the end of the first 5 to 1.
In the second quarter the Buccaneers would come out strong, not putting on the brake scoring three consecutive goals to add to their lead over the AMCATS 8 to 1. It would then be mid-way through the second that the AMCATS would find their second goal of the game off a pass from Christine Ijawet to Riley Michaud to trail the Buccaneers by 6 goals. The Buccaneers would go on to score four more goals in the second quarter to silence the AMCATS and lead heading into halftime 12 to 2. The AMCATS would be trailing the Buccaneers by 10 goals and would look for some offensive momentum in the second half.
The third quarter the AMCATS would come out firing offensively against the Buccaneers. As they would get their third goal of the game off a free position shot from Ivy Ballou. It would not be long after Ivy Ballou goal that the AMCATS would strike again for their fourth goal of the game off a pass from Carly Drew to Riley Michaud, for the AMCATS fourth goal of the game. It would then be the Buccaneers to close the door against the AMCATS and score three consecutive goals to close out the third quarter increasing their lead over the AMCATS 15 to 4.
The fourth quarter would go back and forth with the Buccaneers striking first to add to their lead and tally their sixteen goal of the game. It would then be the AMCATS to strike in the fourth getting their fifth goal of the game. It would then be the Buccaneers to strike one last time to add to their lead and close out the game. The Buccaneers would go on to win the game over the AMCATS 17 to 4.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Grace Holden would have 15 saves on 31 shots against the Buccaneers.
- Riley Michaud would have three goals in the game adding to her leading total for the AMCATS with 15 goals and 6 assists for a total of 21 points in 6 games played.
- Kortney Clark and Raegan Hachey would both lead the AMCATS against the Buccaneers each having 3 caused turnovers.
- Kortney Clark would lead the AMCATS against the Buccaneers in ground balls with a total of 4.
- Christine Ijawet would lead the AMCATS in the circle with 6 draw control against the Buccaneers.
