Mariners Sink Men's Basketball

NEW LONDON, CT - On Tuesday, November 19th the Anna Maria College men's basketball team traveled to New London, CT to take on the Mariners of Mitchell College for a non-conference matchup. The AMCATS lost the game 78-57.

The AMCATS took an early lead over the Mariners, battling hard to maintain their distance. However a momentum shift in the final minutes of the first half allowed the mariners to surge past the AMCATS and take a 42-35 lead going into halftime. Sean Zabari led the charge for the AMCATS in the first half with 10 points and shooting 4 for 5 in free throws.

Things wouldn't turn around for the AMCATS in the second half as the Mariners opened up with five quick points, forcing the Anna Maria bench to take a timeout. In the end the Mariners would end up out scoring the AMCATS in the second half 36-22, maintaining their lead and securing the victory. Despite only having two points in the second half, Sean Zabari would end up as the AMCATS points leader for the night with twelve total.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • The AMCATS are 2-2 against the Mariners over the last three seasons.
  • The last time the AMCATS opened up a season with four straight losses they made it to the Conference Semi-Finals (2019-2020).

COMING UP:

The AMCATS will be back in action on Friday, November 22nd where they will take on the Wesleyan University Cardinals for game one of the Wesleyan Tournament. Opening tip off is set for 5:30pm.
