VOLLEYBALL DROPS TWO TO FALCONS AND SAINTS

NEW HAVEN, CONN. - On Friday October 25th, 2024, the Anna Maria College women's volleyball team traveled to New Haven, Conn for a tri-match against the Albertus Magnus Falcons and the Saints of Emmanuel College. The AMCATS would lose both sets 3-0.  

The AMCATS opened the day against the Falcons of Albertus Magnus. The first set for the AMCATS would be a back-and-forth match, with the Falcons. It would be point for point, but it would be the Falcons that would fight their way to a win over the AMCATS 25 to 23. The AMCATS would look to come back from that first set, against the Falcons. It would not take long before the Falcons would take control against the AMCATS beating them in the second set 25 to 18. The AMCATS would look to come out strong in the third set to keep the match and game going. The AMCATS would give their all-in set three, going point for point , as they did in set one, but it would be the Falcons of Albertus Magnus that would come up on top against the AMCATS winning set three 25 to 23. This would prove to be one of the strongest offensively set games in the match for the AMCATS but ultimately, they would still fall short to the Falcons. The match, against the AMCATS would end as they would beat the AMCATS in three straight sets. Annie Taylor would lead the AMCATS in digs with 15 in the match. It would be Jana Hunt that would lead the AMCATS in kills with 7. It would be Gia Hall that would lead the AMCATS with 13 assists in the match. 

The second match of the day for the AMCATS will be against the Saints where the AMCATS look to come out strong and battle back from their first match of the day against the Falcons. This second match of the day would be against the Saints of Emmanuel College. The AMCATS would find themselves down to the Saints  quickly, as the Saints would come out strong and completely control the first set of the game against the AMCATS, winning 25 to 13. The AMCATS would look to battle back, and get their first win of the set, against the Saints. In set two the AMCATS would look to come out strong against the Saints, but it would be the Saints to dominate and take control of the AMCATS beating them 25 to 16. The second set would prove to be the best for the AMCATS, but ultimately would still fall short in set two to the Saints. The third set would start, and the AMCATS would look to come out strong offensively in need of a win against the Saints. Ultimately though in set three it would quickly turn to the Saints who would take complete control of the set three and dominate the match against the AMCATS. The AMCATS would try to come back offensively and continue to fight but it would be the Saints to come out on top of the AMCATS in set three with a score of 25 to 10. The AMCATS would get swept by the Saints of Emmanuel College losing three straight sets for the match.  It would be Annie Taylor  that would lead the AMCATS in digs with 8 against the Saints. It would be both Annie Taylor and Jana Hunt for the AMCATS to have 4 kills in the match. Gia Hall would lead the box score with 8 assists for the AMCATS. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE: 

  • Graduate Annie Taylor would record her 319 career dig at the tri-match in New Haven Connecticut.
  • Freshman Gia Hall would record her 297 assists at the tri-match in New Haven, Connecticut 
  • Junior Jana Hunt would record her 276 career kill at the tri-match in New Haven, Connecticut. 
  • The AMCATS have two tri-match's left this season. 
  • The AMCATS have been defeated in every tri-match so far this season. 

 COMING UP: 

The AMCATS will be back in action on Tuesday October 29th, 2024, where they will host the Wildcats of Johnson and Wales for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup. The game is set to start at 6:00pm.
