VOLLEYBALL FALLS SHORT AGAINST BLAZERS AND CAN’T KEEP UP AGAINST RAIDERS IN TRI-MATCH

CHICOPEE, MA  - On Saturday November 2, 2024, the Anna Maria College women's volleyball team traveled to Chicopee, MA for a Great Northeast Athletic conference tri-match against the Elms College Blazers and the Rivier University Raiders. The AMCATS would lose both games. 

The AMCATS opened the day against the Blazers of Elms College this first match  would be a dog fight for the AMCATS. The first set of the match would prove to be the AMCATS best set of the day after pulling out a 26-24 victory over the Blazers. Despite the momentum being in favor of the AMCATS, and the AMCATS being up 1 set to 0 over the Blazers the Blazers would manage to tie the match up with a heart breaking 25-8 set win. Undeterred, the AMCATS kept fighting but unfortunately came up short in the third and fourth sets as the Blazers would secure a 3-1 victory over the AMCATS.

The second match for the AMCATS would be against the Rivier Raiders. After the AMCATS would lose the first match in a heartbreaker, to the Blazers they would look to come out strong offensively and regroup as a team to try and get the win against the Raiders. The first set would not go in the AMCATS favor against the Raiders, as it would be all Raiders and the AMCATS would face defeat in the first set 25-12, the AMCATS didn't give up as they battled through set number two with a score of 25-7. As the match progressed, the AMCATS performed better and better. Despite losing the third set, the AMCATS came within points of victory losing 25-17 to the Raiders. The Raiders would win the set 3 to 0, sweeping the AMCATS in the match. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • AMCAT graduate Annie Taylor would get her 349-career dig in the tri-match leading the AMCATS this season. 
  • AMCAT freshman Gia Hall would get her 326th career assist in the tri-match leading the AMCATS this season. 
  • AMCAT senior Jana Hunt would ger her 285th career kill in the tri-match, leading the AMCATS this season. 
  • The AMCATS are currently 0-11 in conference this season. 

COMING UP:

The AMCATS will be back in action on Wednesday November 6th, 2024, where they will host the Bulldogs of Dean College for Senior Night. The match is set to start at 6:00pm.
