Womens Volleyball Drops Two At USJ Tri-Match

WEST HARTFORD, CT - On Saturday, September 21st the Anna Maria College women's volleyball team traveled to West Hartford, CT for a tri-match against the Blue Jays of Saint Josephs of Connecticut and the Pride of Regis University. The AMCATS would lose both sets 3-0.  

The AMCATS opened the day against the Blue Jays of Saint Joseph's of Connecticut. The Blue Jays would come out in the first set with total control, dominating the first set against the AMCATS 25 to 9. The AMCATS would continue to fight and battle against the Blue Jays but would lose the second set 25 to 11. The second set would prove to be better than the first set offensively for the AMCATS, but they would come up short against the Blue Jays. The AMCATS would give their all-in set three, but it would be the Blue Jays of Saint Josephs that would come up on top against the AMCATS winning set three 25 to 12. This would prove to be the strongest offensively for the AMCATS but would still fall short to the Blue Jays. This would conclude the match, as the Blue Jays, would win three straight sets against the AMCATS. It would be three AMCATs to be tied for 3 kills in the match. Annie Taylor would lead the AMCATS in digs with 10 on the match. AMCAT player Gia Hall would lead the AMCATS with 10 assists for the match. 

The second match of the day for the AMCATS where they would look to come out strong and battle back from their first match. This second match of the day would be against the Pride of Regis University. The AMCATS would find themselves down to the Pride quickly, as the Pride would come out strong in the first set, winning 25 to 11. The AMCATS would look to battle back, and get their first win of the set, but would fall short to the Pride losing the second set 25 to 12. This would prove to be a better start offensively then the first set for the AMCATS, but they would still fall short to the Pride. The third set would start, and the AMCATS quickly falling behind to the Pride, would try to battle back offensively, but would fall short losing the third set 25 to 12. The AMCATS would get swept by the Pride of Regis losing three straight sets for the match. Jana Hunt would lead the AMCATS in the match with 7 digs. Rillie Mendoza lead the AMCATS in the match with a total of 3 kills. It would be Gia Hall who would lead the AMCATS with 7 attacks in the match against the Pride. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE: 

  • Annie Taylor would continue to dominate in digs so far this season, getting her 211 digs against the Pride.  
  • Gia Hall would lead the AMCATS with a total of 17 attacks on the day.  
  • The AMCATS have been defeated in every tri-match so far this season. 

COMING UP: 

The AMCATS will be back in action on Tuesday October 8th, 2024 , where they will host the Falcons of Fitchburg State for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup. The match is set to start at 6:00pm.
