PAXTON, MA- On Wednesday January 15th, 2025 the Anna Maria College women's basketball team hosted the Blue Jays of the University of Saint Joseph of Connecticut The AMCATS lost the game 75-55.
The Blue Jays would come out strong against the AMCATS, totally dominating the first quarter. The Blue Jays would put up 26 points and limit the AMCATS to only 8 points in the first quarter. The Blue Jays took total control of the AMCATS in the first and the AMCATS would look to battle back against the Blue Jays, as there was plenty of game left. Marinique Reddin got things started for the AMCATS offense, scoring 6 out of the 8 points scored in the first quarter.
The AMCATS would look to come out in the second quarter stronger by putting on more offensive pressure and tighten up their defensive pressure against the Blue Jays. It would not work out the way the AMCATS wanted in the second, as the Blue Jays came out flying against the AMCATS in the second quarter, putting up 20 points, and limiting the AMCATS to only 8 points for a second straight quarter. Marinique would continue to lead the charge for the AMCATS putting up 4 of the 8 AMCATS points in the second quarter. The Blue Jays would lead the AMCATS 46 to 16 heading into halftime.
The AMCATS would need to use this intermission to reset themselves and bring the offensive pressure against the Blue Jays. The AMCATS would look to not only come with constant pressure offensively but also to lock down on the defensive side of the ball against the Blue Jays. The AMCATS would come out just as they needed to in the third quarter, apply offensive pressure, and stopping the offensive opportunities and points the Blue Jays were getting in the first half. The AMCATS would go back and forth with the Blue Jays, each exchanging point for point. It would be the Blue Jays though to get one extra point before the end of the third quarter. Despite the score difference the AMCATS would battle in the third quarter putting up a total of 17 points against the Blue Jays. The AMCATS would end the third quarter trailing to the Blue Jays 74 to 42.
