Baseball Falls To Pilgrims At Home
NORTHBOROUGH, MA - On Sunday, March 23rd the Anna Maria College baseball team hosted the Pilgrims of New England College for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup. The AMCATS lost the game 18-7.
The AMCATS got off to a slow start giving up six runs to the Pilgrims in the first inning, followed by back to back four run innings. Avery Acuna popped out a SAC fly to send Josh Batchelder home for the AMCATS first run of the day, however the Pilgrims still led 14-1 after three innings.
The AMCATS wouldn't start to find their stride until the bottom of the seventh inning when Dillon Darnbrough batted in two runners for an RBI double before reaching home on a fielders choice initiated by Evan Dumeny. The AMCATS final runs of the day came off a home run from Matthew Cinque that sent two AMCATS back home for a five run seventh inning. Unfortunately the late surge wouldn't be enough to keep the game going as the AMCATS still trailed by 11 runs after seven innings for a final score of 18-7.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Matthew Cinque recorded his first career home run against the Pilgrims.
- Ryan Corcoran batted doubled for his first career hit with the AMCATS.
