
BASEBALL WALKS IT OFF IN THE NINTH INNING TO TAKE DOWN LANCERS
NORTHBOROUGH, MA – On Saturday March 1st, 2025, the Anna Maria College baseball team would host the Lancers of Worcester state at the New England Sports Complex in Northborough, MA for a non-conference matchup. The AMCATS won the game 6 to 5.
Taking the lead early, the AMCATS were up 3 to 0 over the Lancers going into the sixth inning. The Lancers would fight back and put up two runs on the scoreboard against the AMCATS to make it a 3 to 2 lead in the top of the sixth inning. The AMCATS would then add to their one run lead in the sixth inning after two AMCATS would walk, and Tommy Sasso would single up the right field line to score Matt Beuka for the 4th run for the AMCATS putting them back up by two runs. The Lancers would not give up against the AMCATS and were not going away in the eighth inning the Lancers would hit a three-run homer and the AMCATS would find themselves trailing behind the Lancers by one run 5 to 4. The AMCATS answered back quickly and were not going to lose this game with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning Jonathan Guardascione would reach first on an error and which would score the tying run for the AMCATS against the Lancers 5 to 5. The AMCATS would have all the momentum on their side, and with the bases remaining loaded the AMCATS would look to walk this game off against the Lancers in the bottom of the ninth. It would be Andrew Denisonwho would get hit by the pitch off the top of his shoulder/arm to score the game winning run and walk the game off against the Lancers. As the AMCATS would go on to beat the Lancers 6 to 5 in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Beyond The Box Score:
- Tommy Sasso would go 3 for 3 at the plate today, against the Lancers hitting his first home run of the season.
- 4 different AMCATS would have doubles in the game against the Lancers.
- Andrew Denison would have two stolen bases against the Lancers.
- This would mark the first walk off win for the AMCATS this season.
WHAT'S NEXT
The AMCATS will be back in action on Saturday, March 8th, 2025, where they will take on the Penn State- Abington Nittany Lions for their first game of their trip to Auburndale, FL. Opening pitch is set for 7:00pm.
