
SOFTBALL PULLS OUT COME FROM BEHIND WIN AGAINST THUNDER TO SPLIT LAST DAY OF FLORIDA TRIP
Game 1-
The AMCATS of Anna Maria College took on the Thunder of Wheaton Illinois in Melbourne, FL on Tuesday March 11, 2025. The AMCATS would win the game 7 to 4.
The AMCATS would look to get the offense going and keep the defense strong in the field as they would play their first game of the day, against the Thunder of Wheaton Illinois .The Thunder would get on the board first against the AMCATS as they would have a strong third inning capitalize on some errors that the AMCATS would commit earning them three runs. The AMCATS would now have to lock it down on defense and bring the offensive skills and momentum to the plate if they wanted to pull out a come from behind win against the Thunder. The AMCATS would do just that as they would get the spark they needed on the offensive side of the plate and would take the lead, 5-4, in the top of the fifth, capitalizing on three straight walks from the Thunder pitcher. The AMCATS would be ahead of the Thunder by one run and would really need to lock it down in the field to hold down the lead and would need to keep the offense going at the plate so they could try and pull away from the Thunder. The seventh inning would come and the AMCATS needed to play strong defense and find some offensive momentum at the plate to get a more comfortable lead against the Thunder and know they have some breathing space as the Thunder would have their last at bats in the seventh. The AMCATS would come out strong in the seventh inning and get the answers they needed scoring three runs to comfort their lead over the Thunder 7 to 4 now. The Thunder would get up to bat in the bottom of the seventh inning and the AMCATS defense would be flawless in the bottom of the seventh inning to keep the Thunder off the board in the seventh and pull out the come from behind win 7 to 4.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Ella Moon would lead the AMCATS in hits and RBI against the Thunder with 2 hits and 3 RBI.
- The AMCATS would tally 9 walks against the Thunder for the most walks in one game so far this season.
- Angela Marie Gilmartin would earn her first stolen base of her career against the Thunder.
Game 2-
The AMCATS of Anna Maria College took on the Prairie Wolves of Nebraska Wesleyan. The AMCATS would drop the game to the Prairie Wolves 8 to 0.
After a good team effort win, the AMCATS look to keep the winning momentum going as they face up against the Wolves of Nebraska. The Wolves would come out strong in the game against the AMCATS, and the AMCATS would put up their best efforts to try and contain the Wolves only being down 3-0 after the third inning. The AMCATS would continue to put the ball in play, but the Wolves be able to find the ball on the other side, and make the plays in the field to have strong defense against the AMCATS. Despite the AMCATS putting the ball in play, and would continuing trying to get the momentum going, but it would be the Wolves that would continue to pile on the runs and silence the AMCATS. The AMCATS would get base runners, but just could not get the offensive going to score their runners as the Wolves would continue to shut down the AMCATS offensively. The Wolves would go on to score five more runs on the AMCATS, making the comeback for the AMCATS to be difficult, and with the Wolves defense on the AMCATS, the comeback would not happen as the AMCATS would fall to the Wolves 8 to 0.
