
Softball Drops Two Against Pilgrims In Conference Opener
PAXTON, MA- On Friday April 4th, 2025 the Anna Maria College softball team would host the Pilgrims of New England College for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader. The AMCATS lost both games 3-0 and 11-3.
Game One: . The AMCATS and the Pilgrims in game one would be a battle of the defenses as both teams would be held scoreless until the seventh inning. Both teams would trade opportunities, but it would be a pitcher's duel to determine this game. Both teams would only manage to get a total of 8 hits, 5 for the Pilgrims and 3 for the AMCATS. The AMCATS would have an opportunity in the seventh inning off a single to right field from Angela Marie Gilmartin, but the Pilgrims defense were able to get out of it. The AMCATS would play strong all game against the Pilgrims making plays in the field and battling strong at the plate. In the seventh inning the AMCATS would have two outs with two on against the Pilgrims, and it would be the Pilgrims to nail a three-run homerun to left field to get the only runs on the board in the game. Unfortunately for the AMCATS that result meant a 3-0 loss to the Pilgrims in game one.
Angela Marie Gilmartin would go 1 for 1 at the plate for the AMCATS in game one. Emily Colp and Gabby Vasquez would both have singles in game one against the Pilgrims. Makenna Lovelette would pitch 6.2 innings, with 3 strike outs, 5 hits, no walks and 3 runs.
Game Two: The AMCATS would look to come out strong in the second game against the Pilgrims, in hope to split the series with the Pilgrims. The Pilgrims would get on top of the AMCATS early scoring two runs in the first inning. The AMCATS would battle back against the Pilgrims and would take the lead in the third inning scoring three runs to take the lead 3 to 2. It would not be long before the Pilgrims would battle right back and score four runs over the AMCATS regaining the lead 6 to 3. Despite the AMCATS trying to battle back and regain the lead over the Pilgrims, their comeback would fall short as the AMCATS would not score again since the third inning. And the Pilgrims would go on to score two more in the fourth and three more runs in the fifth inning. The AMCATS would fall short in game two to the Pilgrims 11 to 3.
Beyond The Box Score:
- Madison Ayik would go 3 for 3 in game two against the Pilgrims, while also having an RBI
- Emily Colp and Ella Moon would both have doubles in game two against the Pilgrims.
- Emily Colp would lead the AMCATS in RBI's in game two against the Pilgrims with 2.

The AMCATS will be back in action on Tuesday April 8th, 2025, where they host the Blazers of Elms College for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference softball doubleheader matchup. Opening pitch for game one is set for 3:00pm.
