Bio

Shawn Conrad has been the Head Coach of the Anna Maria men’s basketball program since the 2006-07 season. He is the 7th Head Coach in program history and will be entering his 15th season as in 2021-22. Overall he will be entering his 35th season as a coach, 26 of those as a Head Coach across all levels and 8 seasons as an Assistant Coach.

Prior to coming to Anna Maria, Coach Conrad had head coaching stints at St. Peter-Marian HS, Quinsigamond CC, and Fitchburg State University. He also was an assistant at Assumption College, Holy Cross College, Bryant University, and Anna Maria. Over the course of his head coaching career, he has accumulated 325 wins, the last 156 coming at Anna Maria. During that time, he has been honored by his peers as Coach of the Year four times, in 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2020. He received similar honors as Region 21 Coach of the Year on three occasions while at Quinsigamond CC, where his teams compiled an overall record of 131-55 over his six seasons there.

During his tenure at Anna Maria, Conrad has led the AMCATS to two regular season conference titles (2011,2013) and played in back to back Conference Championship games in 2012 and 2013. His teams qualified for the postseason ECAC tournament five times, 2011,2012,2013,2015 and 2016. The 2013 team put together the longest winning streak in school history with 17 consecutive wins, and for the 1st time in seventeen years and 5th time in the schools, history topped the 20 win mark, finishing 21-9. His teams have recorded over 100 conference victories and annually play one of the most challenging non-conference schedules in the region.

In the 2019-20 season, the AMCATS secured a home playoff berth for the 1st time since 2016 and defeated St Joseph’s College of Maine for their 1st GNAC playoff win since 2013. They went on to lose to eventual champion St Joseph’s College of CT 94-79 in a hard fought battle in the semifinals. Last season was canceled due to the COVID pandemic.

Coach Conrad has recruited and coached some of the most decorated players in school history. Anthony Click (’13) and Mike Rapoza (’20) were both All-Conference selections for all four seasons they were here, and both also received All-Northeast accolades from D3hoops. Click was Player of the Year in back to back seasons, and Rapoza led the entire NCAA across all divisions in his senior season in minutes played, double doubles, and total rebounds. All-time Mike is the school’s 2nd leading scorer (1862) and leading rebounder (1385), while Click is 4th all-time in points (1772) and 5th in rebounds (766). Conrad has coached eleven 1,000 point scorers during his time here and has had numerous other All-Conference selections. Others receiving All-Conference recognition under Coach Conrad include Javier Bristol, Junior DeLaHoz, Chris Pinsonault, Patrick Bradanese, Bobby Perette, Tyler Delorey, Quantez Franklin, Brad Peterson, and Michael Gorman. Coach Conrad has been blessed to coach not only these standouts but so many other great individuals and players throughout his time at Anna Maria and is forever grateful to the members of his coaching staff that have contributed so much to the success of the basketball program.

Conrad is a proud graduate of Assumption College (’84) and received his Master’s degree from Anna Maria College (’00). He resides in Holden, MA, with his wife, Christine. Together they have three children, Meghan (Boston College ’10), Daniel (Assumption ’12), and Brian (Anna Maria ’13).
