Bio

Phillips serves as the Assistant Athletics Director for Student Success and Community engagement. He serves as direct liaison in the athletic department to the Office of Student Success and will assist with student-athlete academic success both in and out of the classroom. He assists student-athletes and captains with leadership skills and serves as a resource for coaches for student-athlete leadership mentoring. In addition, he will supervise athletic department interns. He will work on developing, implementing and supervising community service programming for the athletic department and athletic teams. He will identify community partners to enhance the student-athlete experience and student success through programming and/or mentoring opportunities. In addition, in collaboration with the career services office he will assist in developing and implementing student-athlete career services educational programming.

"I am especially looking forward to working with the entire staff, newly appointed Athletic Director Joe Brady, and my longtime colleague Mike Burlas."

Phillips is a former AMCAT head men's basketball coach wherein 1996 he reached the NCAA Sweet Sixteen and recorded a school record of 25 wins. He also led the AMCATS to six Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) regular season championships and posted an overall record of 166-99 for a .626 winning percentage. He began his career teaching at St. John's High School in Shrewsbury where he then became a guidance counselor and later returned in 2004 as the Dean of Students. He led the Clark men's basketball program from 1996 to 2004 and again from 2006 to 2019 leading the Cougars to the NCAA tournament five times. Phillips retired after 31 seasons as a head coach, finishing his career with 439 wins. He is a 1976 graduate of Assumption College where he played three years for the men's basketball team.
