Get to Know the Coaches: Quincy Wilkins

PAXTON, MA: Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach Quincy Wilkins is next up on Anna Maria College Athletics "Get To Know Your Coaches" feature. Wilkins will be entering her second season at the helm for the AMCATS. Be sure to check back each week to learn more about our coaches. 

Quincy Wilkins recently finished her first season as the Anna Maria College Women's Lacrosse Head Coach. She directed the AMCATS to a 2-1 start and a two-game winning streak before the suspension of the season due to COVID-19.

This past season, Wilkins led the program to most goals scored in three games (35). She also led the program in the least amount of goals scored against in three games (34). Ashley Rufo, a tri-sport rising junior, was also featured in the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll: "Rufo had a stellar week for the AMCATS as she helped the squad go 2-0, which included the team's first win since 2012. Against Dean, she put on a career performance when she tallied eight goals, which tied for the most goals scored in a single game in program history. Rufo continued her strong week when she collected four goals against Mitchell and now leads the team with 12 goals on the season."

In addition to Coach Wilkins' duties at Anna Maria, she helped coach part-time for Central Laxachusetts, an off-shoot of Boston Laxachusetts, one of the premier club programs in New England.

Before Anna Maria, Wilkins was an Assistant Coach at King's College located in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, from 2017-2019. In her first season with the Monarchs, she helped King's produce top five seasons in goals, assists, draw controls, points, and ground balls. She assisted as a position team leader for the offense as well as working with the goalies. To conclude that 2018 season, six student-athletes received the honor of MAC Freedom All-Conference, two received MAC Freedom First Team, and four received MAC Freedom Second Team. In her second season, Wilkins continued to work with both the offense and goalies while helping to bring the Monarchs to their second streak appearance in the MAC Freedom Tournament. She also assisted in King's Women's Lacrosse Clinics and Prospect Days as the offensive coordinator.

During her time at King's College, Wilkins also graduated with a Masters in Education with a focus on Curriculum and Instruction.

While in Northeast Pennsylvania, Wilkins also hopped on as a club coach for the NEPA Grit Lacrosse Club. Here she prepared high school athletes for exclusive competitions and tournaments and introduced games and skills, which helped the student-athlete better develop their levels of play. She also evaluated specific knowledge, skills, strengths, and assigned team positions. 

Wilkins graduated from Assumption College in 2017 with a Bachelor's degree in Human Services and Rehabilitation.

Wilkins was a four-year letter winner for the Assumption College Women's Lacrosse team. She concluded her career playing in 56 games and tallying 85 points on 44 goals and 41 assists with 31 ground balls, 19 draws, and 18 caused turnovers. 

As a senior in 2017, she played in all 17 games and scoring 27 points on 11 goals and was second on the team with 16 assists. She added 13 ground balls and seven caused turnovers. The Hounds went 9-8, including a perfect 3-0 record in overtime games. It marked the fourth time in five years Assumption won at least nine games. The team earned the program's first win over Bentley and the first top-six seed in the NE10 Tournament since 2005. 

As a junior, she played in just eight games due to injury and posted seven points on four goals and three assists. 

As a sophomore, she played in all 18 games with 12 starts. Wilkins finished fourth on the team in scoring with 29 points on 17 goals and 12 assists. She ranked 26th in the Northeast-10 in assists. She also posted 12 ground balls. Continuing her sophomore year, the Hounds posted a 10-8 overall record that featured a 5-4 home mark and a berth in the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament as the No. 7 seed. Receiving votes in the IWLCA National Poll numerous times during the season, the team's ten wins set the single-season record for victories. 

Finally, as a freshman starting her collegiate career, she appeared in 13 games with 11 starts as a rookie. She was the team's top rookie scorer, finishing tied for fourth on the team with 22 points on 12 goals and ranking third on the team with ten assists. Her first year also concluded with a second-straight nine-win season as the team finished 9-7 overall. 

As a 2013 graduate at Minnechaug Regional High School, she was a three-time All-Conference selection for the varsity girl's lacrosse team. She was a Division 1 Western Massachusetts Lacrosse All-Star, along with being the all-time Assist Leader. She concluded her high school career with 320 points on 105 goals and 215 assists. She was also a member of both the Lax Plus Lacrosse Club and Western Mass All-Stars.                                                

Wilkins currently resides in her hometown of Wilbraham, Massachusetts.

We got to know coach a little more in-depth after sitting down and asking her a few questions.

What is your favorite hobby?

I love to cook, travel, watch Netflix, and well.. coach!

What is your favorite restaurant in Worcester?

The Flying Rhino!

What is your favorite movie?

That’s a tough one... I love thrillers/action or just one’s that make you think!

What is your favorite sports team?

Anna Maria College Women’s Lacrosse of course... but if we’re talking major league I guess any New England team (Red Sox, Patriot’s, Bruins, Celtics) are a close second.

What is your favorite sports memory?

As an athlete, beating Bentley Women’s Lacrosse for the first time in program history on their home turf nonetheless.

As a coach... EVERYDAY. I am blessed to work with such a strong, empowering and goofy group of young women. But our first program win since 2012 was/is right up there as well!
