Men's Lacrosse Pulls Out Conference Win Over Falcons

New Haven, CT...In a Great Northeast Athletic Conference divisional game Anna Maria men's lacrosse defeated the Albertus Magnus Falcons 13-10 at Celentano Field in New Haven, Connecticut on April 13, 2024. Both teams traded goals to start the first quarter, with Albertus Magnus taking an early lead with goals from sophomores Rocco Albanese and Bailey Kirwin. The AMCATS quickly responded with goals from freshman Alex Williams (Elmont, NY) and freshman Spencer Carpenter (Castleton,NY) to tie the game at 2-2 by the end of the first quarter.
 
In the second quarter, both teams continued to trade goals, with the falcons taking a slight lead at 5-4. However, Anna Maria rallied back with goals from graduate student Tommy Girard (Newbury, MA, sophomore Naje Wray (South Yarmouth, MA), and junior Nathan Powers (Putney, VT) to take a 7-5 lead going into halftime.

The AMCATS extended their lead even further in the third quarter, behind multiple goals by junior Hank Gittines (Shrewbury, NJ). Anna Maria held a commanding 12-7 lead over Albertus Magnus to end the third quarter.

Albertus Magnus's fourth quarter comeback behind goals from sophomore Cooper Strecker and Kirwin, was not enough to overcome Anna Maria's lead. 

Gittines lead the AMCATS with five goals and two assists. Freshman Christian Williams played a crucial role in goal for Anna Maria, making six saves to secure the win. Powers was 20-for-27 on faceoffs for the AMCATS.

Kirwin led the scoring for the Falcons with four goals, while Strecker added three goals and one assist.

The win improves Anna Maria's record to 2-12 overall and 1-7 in conference. Albertus Magnus falls to 3-9 on the season and 1-6 in the GNAC.

Next Up: Anna Maria will host Saint Joseph's (ME) on Wednesday, April 16 on Senior Night.
