Men's Lacrosse Falls Short in 14-13 Loss To Vikings

PAXTON, MA. – On Tuesday, February 27th the Anna Maria College men's lacrosse team hosted the Salem State University Vikings at Caparso Field in Paxton, MA for a non-conference matchup. The AMCATS lost the game 14-13.

The AMCATS kicked things off after Liam Bedenkop set up Eric Farrell for the first goal of the game. The Vikings would answer with three straight goals to end the first quarter with a score of 3-1.

At the start of the second quarter, the Vikings surged for four more goals as their lead increased to 7-1. It wouldn't be until five minutes into the second quarter that Hank Gittines would get the AMCATS back on the board. Gittines would score again just five minutes later giving the AMCATS momentum towards the end of the quarter. Bedenkop would cut the Vikings lead down to just three after he buried the AMCATS fourth goal of the night off a pass from Tommy Girard. Despite the burst from the AMCATS, the Vikings would tack on two more goals before Gittines scored his third goal of the quarter to end the first half with a score of 9-5 in favor of the Vikings.

After the intermission, the AMCATS came out quick with a goal just forty five seconds into the third quarter as Gittines buried a goal off a pass from Farrell. Spencer Carpenter was the next AMCAT to score, making it a 10-7 game. The AMCATS would continue to battle back as Bedenkop found his second goal of the night followed by a goal from Ethan Quinn to close the Vikings lead down to just one goal. Quinn would end up on the board again just three minutes later as the third quarter came to a close with the AMCATS trailing 12-10.

Farrell opened things up in the final quarter with a goal off a pass from Bedenkop to put the AMCATS just one goal away from tying the game up. Unfortunately the Vikings managed another goal to keep things out of reach for the AMCATS. Aiden Foster would score just forty seconds later after Carpenter set him up from behind the net. The goal would put the AMCATS just one goal away yet again as they pushed to tie the game up. Unable to hold off the Vikings, the AMCATS found themselves on the wrong end of the scoreboard yet again as the Vikings scored another goal to put things just out of reach. Tommy Girard would score with just under four minutes left to go as the AMCATS cut the Vikings lead back down to one yet again, only this time there wouldn't anymore goals scored as the AMCATS were unable to tie the game up before the clock hit zero. The game would end with a score of 14-13 in favor of the Vikings.
