Men's Lacrosse Drops Home Opener To Valiants

PAXTON, MA. – On Saturday, February 17th the Anna Maria College men's lacrosse team hosted the Manhattanville College Valiants at Caparso Field for their home opener. The AMCATS lost the game 22-9.

The AMCATS were the first on the board with a goal from Ethan Quinn just three minutes into the game, however the Valiants would quickly take over control of the game as they began piling on goals throughout the first quarter. The AMCATS wouldn't see their second goal of the game until late in the first quarter as Liam Bedenkop found the back of the net off the assist from Eric Farrell.

Farrell opened up the second quarter with a pair of goals for the AMCATS however the Valiants still maintained control of the game with a lead of 14-4. It wasn't until thirty five seconds left before halftime that the Hank Gittines gave the AMCATS their fifth goal of the day. 

After halftime, the AMCATS changed things up as freshman Spencer Carpenter entered the game on attack setting up two goals to start the half. The first goal came off the stick of Jeremy Dewar just three minutes into the third quarter. The second goal came from Aiden Foster nearly two minutes later. unfortunately for the AMCATS, the quick start in the second half wouldn't be enough to work their way back as the Valiants continued to pull away, increasing their lead to 18-7. Farrell tucked a late goal in the third quarter to cut the Valiants lead to just ten as the quarter came to a close.

The AMCATS saw just one goal in the fourth quarter off the stick of Gittines as the game came to a close with the Valiants leading over the AMCATS 22-9.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Spencer Carpenter got his first career NCAA points, posting two assists in the game.
  • Jeremy Dewar Posted his first career NCAA goal with the AMCATS.
  • Eric Farrell scored his first three career NCAA goals as he earned a Hat Trick in his first NCAA game.
  • Caden Rakes made 24 saves on 46 shots in his debut for the AMCATS.

WHAT'S NEXT: 

The AMCATS will be back in action on Wednesday, February 21st where they will travel to Gorham, ME to take on the University of Southern Maine Huskies. Opening face off is set for 4:00pm
