Huskies Too Much For Men's Lacrosse

GORHAM, ME. – On Wednesday, February 21st the Anna Maria College men's lacrosse team traveled to Gorham, ME to take on the University of Southern Maine Huskies for a non-conference matchup. The AMCATS lost the game 17-12.

Naje Wray opened up the scoring for the AMCATS followed by a goal from Spencer Carpenter just two minutes later to give the AMCATS an early 2-1 lead.  The Huskies would tie things up almost five minutes later however a quick response from Liam Bedenkop put the AMCATS back on top. unfortunately the Huskies would score two quick goals at the end of the first quarter to take a 4-3 lead over the AMCATS.

The AMCATS scored just two goals in the second quarter compared to the Huskies who managed four goals to give them an 8-5 lead over Anna Maria as the first half came to a close. The first AMCATS goal in the second quarter came from Spencer Carpenter on a man up opportunity. Naje Wray would tuck his second goal of the night at the end of the quarter for the AMCATS fifth goal of the evening.

The AMCATS battled back in the third quarter as they went back and forth with the Huskies. Ethan Quinn had the first goal of the third quarter followed by a pair of goals from Carpenter to help close the Huskies lead down to just two goals. Quinn and Bedenkop would get a goal a piece to close out the quarter as the AMCATS now trailed 12-10 behind the Huskies as they entered the final fifteen minutes of play.

Unfortunately the AMCATS only saw two goals in the fourth quarter as the Huskies managed to increase their lead to out score the AMCATS 17-12. Carpenter buried his fifth goal of the night on a man down opportunity with Bedenkop tucking in a man up goal just two minutes later. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Spencer Carpenter led the AMCATS with five goals against the Huskies.
  • Liam Bedenkop had three goals and an assist for the AMCATS.
  • Nathan Powers went 23 for 27 on face-offs putting him seven face-off wins away from 500 in his career.

WHAT'S NEXT: 

The AMCATS will be back in action on Tuesday, February 27th where they will host the Salem State University Vikings at Caparso Field in Paxton, MA. Opening face-off is set for 4:00pm.
