Raiders Strike Down Women's Hockey 5-2

Nashua, NH. – On Saturday, February 10th the Anna Maria College women's ice hockey team traveled to Nashua, NH to face off against the Rivier Raiders for an ECHA matchup. The AMCATS lost the game 5-2. 

The first period action would be back and forth with the AMCATS outshooting the Raiders 13-9. The Raiders would strike first with a goal coming off the stick of Brianna Rumptz assisted by Jessica Driscoll with two minutes and forty-seven seconds left in the first period. 

The Raiders came out strong, scoring one minute into the second period on the powerplay. The Raiders powerplay goal comes from a feed off Jillian Hallee to Rebecca McKelvey who put it home for the Raiders. Raiders going up 2-0 just one minute into the second period would result in an AMCAT goalie change, Sam Dahill went in for Megan Tegethoff. Despite the goalie change, the Raiders kept the momentum and pressure on the AMCATS resulting in two more goals before the second period closes out. The third goal for the Raiders coming from the Molly Dukesherer, assisted by Briana Paxson. The fourth goal scored for the Raiders to close out the second period would come off a feed from Briana Paxson to Jessica Driscoll who would put it in for the Raiders. The AMCATS would remain off the board after the conclusion of two periods. 

The AMCATS find the strike they need, as less than two minutes into the third they capitalize on a feed from Ceilia Nolan to Olympia Myers who finds the back of the net for the AMCATS. The action would go back and fourth, both teams getting chances but it wouldn't be until the AMCATS get a powerplay that they would strike again with a goal from Shayla MacDonald off a feed from Jordyn Bleaney. The AMCATS would continue to fight and battle hard throughout the third period but the Raiders goaltender Rachel Symmes would keep the AMCATS at just two goals. As the time began to run down on the clock, the Raiders would then score an insurance empty net goal coming from Molly Hurley to make it a 5-2 game. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE 

  • Sam Dahill stopped 59 shots over the two-game weekend (Game 1: 35; Game 2: 24). 
  • Shayla MacDonald gets her 8th goal of the season. 
  • Olympia Myers gets her 4th goal of the season. 
  • Dahill has made 679 saves so far this season, putting her 5 saves away from 1600 throughout her career. 
  • The AMCATS are 5-3-2 in conference play. 

WHAT'S NEXT: 

The AMCATS will be back in action on Friday, February 16th where they will travel to Worcester, MA to take on the Worcester Lancers at the Worcester Ice Center. Opening puck drop is set for 4:00pm.
