Lancers Too Much For The AMCATS

WORCESTER, MA. – On Saturday, February 17th the Anna Maria College women's ice hockey team hosted the Worcester State University Lancers at the Buffone Arena in Worcester, MA for an ECHA Conference matchup. The AMCATS lost the game 6-2. 

The first period would be strong for the Lancers as they would come out firing, outshooting the AMCATS 28-9. The Lancers would score two in the first period against the AMCATS. The first goal would come off the stick of Kiersten Erickson assisted by Shelby Reaugh. The Lancers would continue to shoot everything and keep all the momentum scoring again before the period closes out, coming off the stick of Layna Pereiro assisted by Cassidhe Wozniak. The first period would close out, and the AMCATS would need to return strong for the second period as they are done 2-0 to the Lancers. 

The AMCATS would come out strong, for the second period outshooting the Lancers 12-11. The AMCATS would continue to play strong, and throw pucks to the net, creating opportunities and chances. It would be when the Lancers get a penalty and the AMCATS head to the powerplay that Abby Vigliotte would get a pass from Tessa Henry and fire it home for the AMCATS. That would put the AMCATS within one goal away from the Lancers. The action would continue but not shortly after the Lancers would strike again, when Cassidhe Wozniak would score from the slot to put the Lancers back up by two. The action would go back and fourth and the AMCATS would create chances and take shoots but had no luck when it came to any bounces. The Lancers would score again with just two minutes left in the second period coming off the stick of Caroline Gates assisted by Jennarae Bateman. The Lancers would now be up 4 to 1. The second period would conclude and the AMCATS really would need to fight and come out strong in the third period, being down by three goals. 

The Lancers would come out strong for the third period outshooting the AMCATS 26-6. The Lancers would continue to fire shoots, keeping the AMCATS in their defensive zone. It would be five minutes into the third period where the Lancers would capitalize again scoring off a feed from Madelyn Franta for Jennarae Bateman to score for the Lancers. The Lancers would now be up 5-1. That would result in a goalie change for the AMCATS as Megan Tegethoff went in for Sam Dahill. Despite the goalie change, the Lancers would score again on the powerplay minutes after the goalie change coming off the stick of Jennarae Bateman assisted by Lea Gaspar. The Lancers would keep the momentum and pressure on the AMCATS. The AMCATS would capitalize and get one more by the Lancer goalie Lana Pacific before the clock would run out for the third period. The AMCATS goal would come off a shoot from Julia Ballinger from the point that was then tipped in by Samantha Rodriguez. That would conclude the scoring for both teams as the third period would close out. The AMCATS would fall to the Lancers 6 to 2. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE 

  • Samantha Rodriguez scored her 6th goal of the season. 
  • Abby Vigiolotte scored her 2nd goal of the season. 
  • The AMCATS ended their regular season 5-5-2 in conference play.

The AMCATS will be back in action on Friday February 23rd at the Worcester Ice Center where they will face off against the Rivier Raiders for an ECHA semifinal match up at 8:10pm.
