Dahill Shuts The Door On Raiders

WORCESTER, MA. – On Tuesday, January 9th the Anna Maria College women's ice hockey team hosted the Rivier University Raiders at the Buffone Skating Arena in Worcester, MA. The AMCATS won the game 3-0.

Just under halfway through the first period, the AMCATS found their first goal of the night after Julia Ballinger and Carly Drew set up Tessa Henry for her fourth goal of the season. Henrys goal would be the only one scored in the first period.

After taking the lead in the first period, the Raiders came out strong in the second applying pressure to the Anna Maria defense. The Raiders outshot the AMCATS 16-8 throughout the second period however Sam Dahill managed to stop everything that came her way. Despite only getting eight shots in the second period the AMCATS still managed to improve their lead by two goals. The first goal came just seven minutes into the period after Ballinger and Jordyn Bleaney set up Shayla Macdonald for her second goal in the last two games. The AMCATS third goal would come a little over three minutes later when Olympia Myers found the back of the net.

Leading 3-0 going into the third period, the Raiders pushed hard for a comeback outshooting the AMCATS 17-3. Despite all of their efforts to get up on the board they would prove unsuccessful thanks to a standout performance from Sam Dahill on the backend. Dahill stopped all 17 shots in the third period for a total of 41 saves to earn her second shutout of the season.
