Women’s Ice Hockey Out Dueled by Knights

COLMAR, PA: The Anna Maria College women's traveled to face off with the Arcadia University Knights on Saturday afternoon for a non-conference matchup at the Hatfield Ice Arena.

THE BASICS:

  • Date: Saturday, December 10, 2022
  • Score: Anna Maria 3, Arcadia 5
  • Records: Anna Maria AMCATS 2-9-2 | Arcadia Knights 4-5-2

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The AMCATS were the first team on the scoreboard when senior defenseman Ashley Dickinson (Bowmanville, ON) scored her first collegiate goal with just under eight minutes remaining in the first period. Fellow senior defenseman Alyssa MacDonald (Nanaimo, BC) was credited with her second assist of the season on the play.
  • The AMCATS lead would last until the final minute of the second period when the Knights found an equalizer on the power play. Haylee Kos scored off a rebound of a shot by Abbi Komrofske.
  • Just under 10 minutes into the final frame the Knights scored a second powerplay goal that was credited to Karahkwenhawe White and assisted by Morganne Dee.
  • The AMCATS found an equalizer of their own less than four minutes later. With the Knights on another power play, senior defenseman Abigail Vigliotte (Medford, MA) poked the puck away from a Knight's player behind the net and sent a pass toward the boards that was redirected along by freshman forward Chloe Becher (Red Deer, AB) to senior center Sara Sammons (Western Australia, AUS) who skated in goal tender and put the puck through the five-hole. The goal was Sammons' third of the year and the assists were third and first for Vigliotte and Becher.
  • Sammons's goal would be the first of three goals scored in a stretch of 67 seconds. Regretfully the other two goals were scored by the Knights. The first was a powerplay goal by Hannah O'Rourke (assisted by Kos), and the second was by Ariel Williamson (assisted by White and Dee) to give the Knights a 4-2 lead.
  • Sammons cut the AMCATS deficit to a single goal in the closing seconds of a powerplay. After the Knights turned the puck over in the neutral zone, Sammons again skated in on the netminder and had her shot go off the goalie right back to her and she put the rebound in before the goalie could recover her footing. This was Sammons' first multi-goal and fourth career multi-point game. Her last came on December 3rd of last year against Rivier
  • It would be as close as the AMCATS would get. The Knights added an empty net goal by Dee with 14.2 seconds on the clock for the final 5-3 score.
  • Senior goaltender Julia Smith (Chilliwack, BC) made 34 saves but still took the loss to fall to 0-5-1 on the season.
